'Staging and Stage Décor: Perspectives on European Theater 1500-1950' is a compendium of essays by an international array of theater specialists. The Introduction provides an overview of theater décor and architecture from ancient Greece through the Renaissance and beyond, while the articles that follow explore a variety of topics such as the development of lighting techniques in early modern Italy, the staging of convent theater in Portugal, performance spaces at Versailles, the reconstruction of the Globe theater, and Shrovetide plays in Germany. This volume also offers insight into little-studied subjects such as the early productions of Brecht and the spread of Russian theater to Japan. The focus on performance and performance space across centuries and continents makes this a truly unique volume.

Ahae written by Bernard Hasquenoph and has been published by Max Milo this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-09-20 with Art categories.

April 2014: A ship sinks in South Korea, killing nearly 300 people. 2013: A Korean amateur photographer exhibits in Versailles. August 1987: 32 members of the Korean Odaeyang sect are found dead. The link between these facts? It was Bernard Hasquenoph who discovered it. Intrigued by the success of Ahae, the pseudonym of the amateur photographer, he leads the investigation and is the first to reveal the true identity of the Korean artist, billionaire and patron of the arts, entrepreneur and guru, with a vast and well-established network of influence. And the further he investigated, the more obscure and unbelievable the revelations became. Through the portrait of one man, we plunge into a mafia world with unexpected ramifications, such as international cultural patronage, which brings into question the value of art and the probity of those in charge of it. Bernard Hasquenoph is a journalist and creator of the museum blog Louvre pour tous. He campaigns for wider access to culture and denounces the commercial drift of public cultural institutions.

Escape From Vichy written by Eric T. Jennings and has been published by Harvard University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-03-09 with History categories.

In the early years of World War II, thousands of political refugees traveled from France to Vichy-controlled Martinique in the French Caribbean, en route to what they hoped would be safer shores in North, Central, and South America. While awaiting transfer from the colony, the exiles formed influential ties—with one another and with local black dissidents. Escape from Vichy recounts this flight from the refugees’ perspectives, using novels, unpublished diaries, archives, memoirs, artwork, and other materials to explore the unlikely encounters that fueled an anti-fascist artistic and intellectual movement. The refugees included Spanish Republicans, anti-Nazi Germans and Austrians, anti-fascist Italians, Jews from across Europe, and others fleeing violence and repression. They were met with hostility by the Vichy government and rejection by the nations where they hoped to settle. Martinique, however, provided a site propitious for creative ferment, where the revolutionary Victor Serge conversed with the anthropologist Claude Lévi-Strauss, and the Surrealist André Breton met Negritude thinkers René Ménil and Aimé and Suzanne Césaire. As Eric T. Jennings shows, these interactions gave rise to a rich current of thought celebrating blackness and rejecting racism. What began as expulsion became a kind of rescue, cut short by Washington’s fears that wolves might be posing in sheep’s clothing.
