Future Poets has One Hundred and One Poetry Challenges, Lesson plans, Poetic Devices explained, as well as Copyright-Free poems for speech presentations. It can be a stand alone poetry unit and is great for substitute teachers and last-minute lessons. This book is for all my fellow teachers who enjoy poetry and believe their students will become better writers if they keep practicing. Kids often just need something interesting and challenging to write about: that is how this book can help. Poetry, with its conciseness, emotion, and lack of punctuation, is a great way to begin each school year and ease the kids into other forms of writing. Poetry lends itself to success. Anyone can do it. And its personal; it comes from the students experiences and emotions. Poetry works well for engaging student writers because it is challenging and yet flexible. There are so many types and styles of poems they can experience. There is also a lot of leeway in terms of punctuation, idioms and slang, and how the words appear on the page. The emphasis in this book is students as poets. Its not about studying the famous poets who have gone before. Its about finding a love for expressing yourself that can last a lifetime. It is my hope that this book will help your students come to a better understanding of poetry and eventually feel confident in their ability to write poems.

Emotional Explosions written by Karen Linda Brown Glotzer and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-07-22 with Poetry categories.

Poetry often presents difficulties for readers, particularly younger ones. Replete with flowery figurative language and difficult-to-grasp themes, most poetry leaves students behind. In Emotional Explosions, author Karen Linda Brown Glotzer seeks to demonstrate that poetry can be used to clearly convey emotions and that it can be enjoyed, shared, and easily understood. This collection divides verses into four sections. The Tiorati Collection focuses on a summer camp in a breathtaking nature preserve, recalling not only the wildlife encountered but also the sadness of saying good-bye to campers and counselors. Tai Chi explores that ancient art and its ideology, a topic close to Glotzers heart. Times includes a mlange of subjects such as childhood experiences, motherhood, friendship, animals, therapy, and death, including some humor and silliness along the way. Finally, Tears considers the unspeakable truths of our existence. This collection of poetry presents a journey toward self-discovery via verse and offers a way of sharing emotions common to all human beings.

At Risk written by Jennifer Griffiths and has been published by Univ. Press of Mississippi this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-12-28 with Literary Criticism categories.

Jennifer Griffiths's At Risk: Black Youth and the Creative Imperative in the Post–Civil Rights Era focuses on literary representations of adolescent artists as they develop strategies to intervene against the stereotypes that threaten to limit their horizons. The authors of the analyzed works capture and convey the complex experience of the generation of young people growing up in the era after the civil rights movement. Through creative experiments, they carefully consider what it means to be narrowed within the scope of a sociological “problem,” all while trying to expand the perspective of creative liberation. In short, they explore what it means to be deemed an “at risk” youth. This book looks at crucial works beginning in 1968, ranging from Sapphire’s Push and The Kid, Walter Dean Myers’s Monster, and Dael Orlandersmith’s The Gimmick, to Bill Gunn’s Johnnas. Each text offers unique representations of Black gifted children, whose creative processes help them to navigate simultaneous hypervisibility and invisibility as racialized subjects. The book addresses the ways that adolescents experience the perilous “at risk” label, which threatens to narrow adolescent existence at a developmental moment that requires an orientation toward possibility and a freedom to experiment. Ultimately, At Risk considers the distinct possibilities and challenges of the post–civil rights era, and how the period allows for a more honest, multilayered, and forthright depiction of Black youth subjectivity against the adultification that forecloses potential.

The Poetry Of Pop written by Adam Bradley and has been published by Yale University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-03-28 with Music categories.

A trailblazing exploration of the poetic power of popular songs, from Tin Pan Alley to the Beatles to Beyoncé and beyond. Encompassing a century of recorded music, this pathbreaking book reveals the poetic artistry of popular songs. Pop songs are music first. They also comprise the most widely disseminated poetic expression of our time. Adam Bradley traces the song lyric across musical genres from early twentieth-century Delta blues to mid-century rock 'n’ roll to today’s hits. George and Ira Gershwin’s “Fascinating Rhythm.” The Rolling Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” Rihanna’s “Diamonds.” These songs are united in their exacting attention to the craft of language and sound. Bradley shows that pop music is a poetry that must be heard more than read, uncovering the rhythms, rhymes, and metaphors expressed in the singing voice. At once a work of musical interpretation, cultural analysis, literary criticism, and personal storytelling, this book illustrates how words and music come together to produce compelling poetry, often where we least expect it.
