LOVE IN AN ALTERED STATE, encompasses many aspects of the life and times of a seemingly ordinary man and his contribution to posterity. The story begins with the fact that "Bill" has suffered a debilitating cerebral stroke. The time line begins approximately 60 years after the end of World War II, in which Bill served as a paratrooper. Because of his poor health he now appears older than his 86 years. To his very young great-grandchildren he is seen as an old man in a wheelchair. The ignorance of youth has masked the fact that he was once youthful and that he led a remarkable life full of achievement. Much of his life was molded by his heritage and the turbulence of the early 1940s, the preceding Great Depression, and World War II. It is a story of humble beginnings in a Western Pennsylvania coal patch town. It is a tale of hard work, love and separation, duty, honor, and patriotism. The story describes his early home life and family and how he had to quit school to work in the mines to help the family through tough economic times. The book tells the story of his loving wife "Flo" and their courtship and early years. It is a story that exemplifies the power of love. It details the feeling of separation they endured during Bill's nearly three years of military service. Bill's military service is chronicled through the archives of the 11th Airborne Division and other military histories. The actions of the 11th Airborne are interspersed with Flo's life on the home front. From humble beginnings, to a young husband and father in harm's way, to a returning veteran trying to achieve the American Dream, to a life time of community service and achievement in business, Bill has now arrived at his life in an altered state.

From its first publication in 1997, Altered State established itself as the definitive text on Ecstasy and dance culture. This new edition sees Matthew Collin cast a fresh eye on the heady events of the acid house 'Summer of Love' and the rave scene's euphoric escalation into commercial excess as MDMA became a mass-market narcotic. Altered State is the best-selling book on Ecstasy culture, using a cast of memorable characters to track the origins of the scene and its drug through psychedelic subcults, underground gay discos and the Balearic paradise of Ibiza, to the point where Tony Blair was using an Ecstasy anthem as an election campaign song. Altered State critically examines the ideologies and myths of the scene, documenting the criminal underside to the blissed-out image, shedding new light on the social history of the most spectacular youth movement of the twentieth century.

The Altered State written by Paul McLaughlin and has been published by Xlibris Corporation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-04-01 with Self-Help categories.

The Altered State presents a startling new theory of the most universal brush with eternity we can have - falling in love. In the lonely city we cross a street, turn a corner, run into someone and fall in love. Our life is forever altered by a ´chance´ encounter. Yet afterwards, we are haunted by the feeling that it was destined to happen. The Altered State is a unique and revelatory exploration of that great adventure of the human spirit we call erotic love. The author draws on the literature and wisdom of East and West, on research into parapsychology and even the semi-mystical theories of modern physics, but above all he draws on the remarkable love encounters of ordinary people. This original book guides the reader towards an understanding of the miraculous encounter with erotic destiny. Paul McLaughlin comments: "Readers tell me that they are astonished by the ideas in my book and fascinated by the accounts of individual love affairs. Falling in love is probably the most important thing we do in our lives and perhaps the most mysterious. We usually try to explain it by saying ´it´s all chemistry´ or even ´we get on well together´. But these are not explanations at all. Rather they are ways of saying we have no idea. Those who have encountered erotic destiny will understand the book easily. I hope it helps those who have not yet encountered their erotic destiny."

"Riveting."--Bessel van der Kolk, MD, author of The Body Keeps the Score The unlikely story of how the psychedelic drug MDMA emerged from the shadows to the forefront of a medical revolution--and the potential it may hold to help us thrive. Few drugs in history have generated as much controversy as MDMA--or held as much promise. Once vilified as a Schedule I substance that would supposedly eat holes in users' brains, MDMA (also known as Molly or Ecstasy) is now being hailed as a therapeutic agent that could transform the field of mental health and outpace psilocybin and ketamine as the first psychedelic approved for widespread clinical use. In I Feel Love, science journalist Rachel Nuwer separates fact from fantasy, hope from hype, in the drug's contested history and still-evolving future. Evidence from scientific trials suggests MDMA, properly administered, can be startlingly effective at relieving the effects of trauma. Results from other studies point to its usefulness for individual and couples therapy; for treating depression, alcohol addiction, and eating disorders; and for cultivating personal growth. Yet scientists are still racing to discover how MDMA achieves these outcomes, a mystery that is taking them into the inner recesses of the brain and the deep history of evolution. With its power to dismantle psychological defenses and induce feelings of empathy, self-compassion, and love, MDMA may answer profound questions about how we became human, and how to heal our broken social bonds. From cutting-edge labs to pulsing club floors to the intimacy of the therapist's couch, Nuwer guides readers through a cultural and scientific upheaval that is rewriting our understanding of our brains, our selves, and the space between.

God The Active Principle Of Infinite Love written by M.J. Azhikannickal and has been published by FriesenPress this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-01-04 with Philosophy categories.

Thought-provoking and enlightening, God: The Active Principle of Love examines the “dual componency” of the metaphysical and the physical that encompasses human existence. Addressing the traditional teachings of a variety of world religions, M. J. Azhikannickal deconstructs the conventional understanding of “God” and “spirituality” and presents a refreshing view of our relationship with the Divine. Human spirituality is a Theo-centric metaphysical ideation attained by disciplined physical instrumentation. Humans have a built-in free will through which they choose to “tilt” to the positive or the negative. Their choices impact society in general, because as individual entities, they are still intricately connected in the human aggregate. Tendencies to the negative have led to the degeneration and disintegration of all society, but an awareness of the Divine within us and a move to more positive choices will usher in a new era and a new civilization, where every human being, born and unborn, matters. Although philosophical in nature, the book also touches on the practical implications of God as the active principle of love, including justice, relationships, sexuality, and charity. Readers will be challenged to expand their understanding of reality and align their actions with their understanding of divine love.

This anthology breaks new ground in the English speaking world by publishing translations of poems by Polish writers all under the age of forty five. It reflects the range of different writing practices that have flourished in various parts of Poland over the last fifteen years, and tries to acheive a balance between them. Practically all the work in this selection was written in the post-Communist period but in cultural historical terms it reflects the evolution of a sensibility that began to emerge in the mid 1980's when Polish poetry was being realigned contentiously with newly visible traditions of European and American writing.

As a traditional psychotherapist, Dr. Brian Weiss was astonished and skeptical when one of his patients began recalling past-life traumas that seemed to hold the key to her recurring nightmares and anxiety attacks. His skepticism was eroded, however, when she began to channel messages from the "space between lives," which contained remarkable revelations about Dr. Weiss' family and his dead son. Using past-life therapy, he was able to cure the patient and embark on a new, more meaningful phase of his own career.
