When Fiona Collins meets Stuart Higgins at a leadership conference in Melbourne she isn't looking for a relationship, let alone the upheaval of falling in love with an intelligent, eco-friendly cotton farmer from south east Queensland. But that's exactly what's on the cards. When Stuart sends Fiona a pair of crusty old boots and a declaration of love 16 days into their fledgling relationship, it's the start of a love story that endures – in spite of distance, the strain of Stuart's cotton farm entering its fourth year of drought, and Fiona's issues with commitment. Something's got to give, and eventually Fiona makes the life-changing decision to move from her comfortable Sydney life to Stuart's farm where the nearest township is Jandowae, population 700.Here, Fiona must become accustomed to snakes on the doorstep, frogs in the toilet, feral cats in the roof, and the perils of the bush telegraph. Gradually, she begins to love her life on the land and finds the courage to face her fears. But as Stuart struggles to balance environmental and commercial realities, she realises that farming isn't quite as simple as she first imagined. Ultimately, Fiona has to learn how to cope with the devastating impact of the drought that grips the countryside, and what it means for Stuart, the farm and their future together.Love in the Age of Drought is a delightful fish-out-of-water story about the city/rural culture clash overcome by the course of true love. Written with heart and humour, it's also a moving tribute to country Australia's strength and capacity for survival and renewal amid a drought that won't be broken.

It's the middle of the night in the Namibian desert when zoologist Tammie Matson wakes with a start to find two elephants standing beside her tiny tent. She makes a promise: "If you just let me survive tonight I will give up Africa. I'll give it all up. Just don't let them stand on me." It's not a promise she will easily keep. At 29, Tammie has spent nearly half her life in Africa, her first love, working as a conservationist. But as her 30s approach, Tammie is conscious of not having ticked those boxes: no house, no kids and no husband. Broke and with her visa running out, it seems like Africa may just force her to give it up after all. On returning to Australia, Tammie lands a job at the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) in Sydney. There she meets Andy, a charismatic Brit, and Africa suddenly has a rival. But she's not ready to give up on the elephants yet... From the magic of Bushmanland, to the banks of Chobe River in Botswana, to the civil strife of Assam, India, Elephant Dance takes us to the heart of a conservationist's fight to find a way for elephants to live peacefully in a world with too many people, too few resources and the increasing threat of climate change. Passionate, funny, and moving, Elephant Dance is also a classic story of self-discovery, love, and the courage it takes to follow your calling, especially when it takes you places you least expected.

Sally Henderson's long love affair with Africa and its elephants was brought to life in the bestselling Silent Footsteps. Now she returns with Ivory Moon, a memoir set in Namibia - in one of the most hostile landscapes on the planet. When Sally and her husband, Jer, volunteer to run a remote safari camp in the parched Namib Desert, where existence depends on the life-giving fog from the Skeleton Coast, she has no idea if it is heaven or hell that awaits her. If her longing for a wilderness experience where elephants roam the dunes is tried by extremes of climate, sandstorms and dangerous encounters with wild animals, Sally does not expect it will be camp politics that will take her to the edge. But that's exactly the case. A woman running a camp in a man's world, Sally is tested by the staff, who come from many different tribes, and challenged by the intractable men's men who make Africa their hunting ground. The quest for equilibrium is intensified by the haunting presence of intangible things and the echoes of an ancient mystery. Beautifully told, Sally's vivid depiction of the natural world and the wildlife that rules Africa's desert are unparalleled. Ivory Moon takes us into the heart of a strange desert world where nothing is as it seems.

The human face of poverty The poor in India are, too often, reduced to statistics. In the dry language of development reports and economic projections, the true misery of the 312 million who live below the poverty line, or the 26 million displaced by various projects, or the 13 million who suffer from tuberculosis gets overlooked. In this thoroughly researched study of the poorest of the poor, we get to see how they manage, what sustains them, and the efforts, often ludicrous, to do something for them. The people who figure in this book typify the lives and aspirations of a large section of Indian society, and their stories present us with the true face of development.

The Story Of Joseph In Spanish Golden Age Drama written by Michael D. McGaha and has been published by Bucknell University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998 with Bible categories.

This book includes critical studies and English translations of six different dramatic versions of the biblical story of Joseph and his brothers written during the century and a half from about 1535 to 1685 - that is, from the earliest attempts at full-length drama to the end of the classical period, which is usually dated around the year of Calderon de la Barca's death in 1681. Three of the plays are full-length dramas, while the rest belong to the peculiarly Spanish genre of one-act religious plays known as autos sacramentales. Comparison of these six variations on a theme enhances our understanding of the gradual evolution of both the auto and the comedia (full-length) genres during the Golden Age. In addition to the biblical story, Spanish playwrights drew upon a rich tradition of retellings of the Joseph story written during the Middle Ages by Muslim, Jewish, and Christian Spaniards. Each of these ethnic and religious groups developed new interpretations of the story dictated by the historical circumstances of a particular time and place, yet each was influenced by the versions created by the others. Ultimately, this grudging collaboration produced a uniquely "multicultural" version of the story.
