Love in the Afternoon continues the Hathaways series by Victorian romance author Lisa Kleypas. As a lover of animals and nature, Beatrix Hathaway has always been more comfortable outdoors than in the ballroom. Even though she participated in the London season in the past, the classic beauty and free-spirited Beatrix has never been swept away or seriously courted...and she has resigned herself to the fate of never finding love. Has the time come for the most unconventional of the Hathaway sisters to settle for an ordinary man—just to avoid spinsterhood? Captain Christopher Phelan is a handsome, daring soldier who plans to marry Beatrix's friend, the vivacious flirt Prudence Mercer, when he returns from fighting abroad. But, as he explains in his letters to Pru, life on the battlefield has darkened his soul—and it's becoming clear that Christopher won't come back as the same man. When Beatrix learns of Pru's disappointment, she decides to help by concocting Pru's letters to Christopher for her. Soon the correspondence between Beatrix and Christopher develops into something fulfilling and deep...and when Christopher comes home, he's determined to claim the woman he loves. What began as Beatrix's innocent deception has resulted in the agony of unfulfilled love—and a passion that can't be denied...

"In this volume of four short novels, Duras demonstrates her remarkable ability to create an emotional intensity and unity by focusing on the intimate details of the relationships among only a few central characters: from the park bench couple in "The Square" (1955) to the double love triangle in "10:30 on a Summer Night" (1960), each novel probes the depths and complexities of human emotion, of love and of despair. Exceptional for their range in mood and situation, these four novels are unparalleled exhibitions of a poetic beauty that is uniquely Duras."--Publisher description.

The Labyrinth written by Edward Sublett and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-10 with Poetry categories.
Labyrinth is a word of pre-Greek Minoan origin referring to a maze with a defined path but without the dead ends and false passageways of a maze. Believed to have been constructed in Crete at Knosses, the labyrinth in the myth was constructed by Daedalus at the command of King Minos to imprison the Minotaur, to whom ten young men were sacrificed each year. In The Labyrinth, author Edward Sublett's new collection of poems, Sublett uses verse to reflect the temporary moments in our lives when we are lost, wondering what fate awaits us-as he did when he nearly went blind due to detached retinas in both eyes. In addition to evoking this time, the poems of this collection also recall the feeling of being by the sea and the other islands scattered south of mainland Greece, especially the islands that comprise Santorini, basking in the sun and the warmth of the Mediterranean Sea. Both themes come together to become The Labyrinth, a poetry collection with a constant theme of loss-of the temporary moments of our lives and of personal memories-and of the understanding that we are all lost at some point in the Labyrinth awaiting our own personal Minotaur. The sea passes over him, rises, falls, declines; the tide comes in, the full moon staring down, cold Diana's face reflected on the earth. The moon is over an empty sea and he dreams of another place another voice and silence... He drinks saltwater in order to do what must be done and madness overwhelms him for he can swim no longer in the gentle tide or wind blown sea... There is a star beyond the windowpane he cannot touch, nor the sea with his eyes closed. -from "Overwhelmed"

Three long stories from Brian Lumley featuring Harry Keogh, the original Necroscope! Never before published in the US. Harry Keogh, the first Necroscope, is arguably Brian Lumley's greatest creation. In the Necroscope series, readers saw Harry learn to use his powers to talk with the dead and travel instantaneously to any point in space and time. They saw him take arms against the evil, twisted, metamorphic alien vampires who sought to feed off humans and enslave mankind. They saw him suffer a great personal loss and then recover his family, and later his humanity, through a new love. And they saw Harry wage the grimmest battle of his life—against the vampire he himself was becoming! Even after Harry's story was done, Brian Lumley continued to write books about Harry's legacy—the other Necroscopes who inherited his weird talents. But Harry himself would not go quietly into that darkness that lies beyond an author's imagination . . . and now Brian Lumley has written three new novellas about Harry and his supernatural adventures, which are published for the first time in the United States in Harry and the Pirates. "Sons and Lovers" – The refined daughter of a "good old burgher family," Gertrude Coppard meets a rough-hewn miner, Walter Morel, at a Christmas dance and falls into a whirlwind romance characterized by physical passion. But soon after her marriage to Walter, she realizes the difficulties of living off his meager salary in a rented house. The couple fights and drifts apart and Walter retreats to the pub after work each day. Gradually, Mrs. Morel's affections shift to her sons beginning with the oldest, William, and later with her second son, Paul. "Lady Chatterley's Lover" – The story concerns a young married woman, the former Constance Reid (Lady Chatterley), whose upper class husband, Sir Clifford Chatterley, described as a handsome, well-built man, has been paralysed from the waist down due to a Great War injury. In addition to Clifford's physical limitations, his emotional neglect of Constance forces distance between the couple. Her emotional frustration leads her into an affair with the gamekeeper, Oliver Mellors. The class difference between the couple highlights a major motif of the novel which is the unfair dominance of intellectuals over the working class. The novel is about Constance's realization that she cannot live with the mind alone; she must also be alive physically. This realization stems from a heightened sexual experience Constance has only felt with Mellors, suggesting that love can only happen with the element of the body, not the mind.
