It was a place where promises passed -- a vessel space -- yet also my firm ground. On that ground, I would stand elated until the day when time began to trickle through the ceiling as everything shook. While moving like a seizure, I reached for stillness. I reached for the expanse I had felt within me, before me -- before the sky, condensed, drew in to form a lampshade. Afraid, I hid my lamp of hourless days within my ribcage frame. Eventually, I, in this clockwork world, shrunk, unshone, undone... until the night the sky unfurled into a colour-breathing dawn. After years of having stumbled along in our worldly race, our worldly numb, I began to feel once more what makes us one and whole. What I have learned as a soul, I have yearned to communicate as a soul through poetry, painting, and prose. In images distilled, in languages within and beyond the parameters of thought, are the ecstasy, the pain, and path of one who seeks to birth her essence into this world. I have flown into my inner firmament to express, through art, reflections of coloured light, of whirling life. This is a book of living alchemy to work in you as muse and guide to your own spiritual portals, the ones revealing your inner universe -- the luminous in you.

"The Missionary Dynamism of the Church of the East It would be an attractive undertaking for the historian to be able to follow in the footsteps of those heralds of the Gospel, who went forth from Antioch with firmness and tenacity in those early days making their way to the East . . . building new centers of Christian irradiation, creating communities and spreading the doctrine of Jesus everywhere. The interest would certainly grow if we were familiar with the challenges faced by these first evangelizers on their way to the Far East. Gaining that knowledge, however, is no easy task. Christ's teaching had to cover immense distances on its road from Antioch towards the East. . . . The details of this diffusion, however, remain obscure. There are no Acts of the Apostles, no Letters of Saint Paul, no contemporary or near-contemporary documents that might tell us how and when Christianity from the region of the Euphrates and the Tigris crossed over the mountainous regions of the Orient, how through Media and Parthia it went south to Herat and Segestan, and how it penetrated eastward, crossing the Margiana (Merv), into the region of the Oxus and the Jaxartes, and finally how it entered today's Russian province of Semireč'e, then Turfan, and then further south into the heart of China"--

The book contains the first annotated English translation of the Correct Explanation of the Tang “Stele Eulogy on the Luminous Teaching” (1644) by the Jesuit Manuel Dias Jr. and other late Ming Chinese Christian sources interpreting the “venerable ancestor” of the Jesuit mission, namely, the mission of the Church of the East in Tang China. Based on this documentation, the book reconstructs the process of “appropriation” by Jesuit missionaries and their Chinese converts of ancient traces of Christianity that were discovered in China in the first half of the seventeenth century, such as the Xi’an stele (781) and other Christian relics

In the last decade, great advances have been made in fundamental research and in the applications of bioluminescence and chemiluminescence. These techniques have become vital tools for laboratory analysis. Bioluminescence imaging has emerged as a powerful new optical imaging technique, offering real-time monitoring of spatial and temporal progression of biological processes in living animals. Bioluminescence resonance energy transfer (BRET) methodology has also emerged as a powerful technique for the study of protein-protein interactions. Luciferase reporter gene technology facilitates monitoring of gene expression and is used to probe molecular mechanisms in the regulation of gene expression. Chemiluminescence detection and analysis have also found diverse applications in life science research; for example, chemiluminescent labels and substrates are now widely used in immunoassay and nucleic acid probe-based assays. The latest advances in this exciting field, from fundamental research to cutting-edge applications, are explored in this most recent volume of the biannual symposium series, the Proceedings of the 15th International Symposium on Bioluminescence and Chemiluminescence. The volume highlights advances in fundamental knowledge of luciferase-based bioluminescence, photoprotein-based bioluminescence, fundamental aspects and applications of chemiluminescence, luminescence imaging, fluorescence quantum dots and other inorganic fluorescent materials, phosphorescence and ultraweak luminescence, and instrumentation for measurement and imaging of luminescence.
