Un viajero se detiene ante una antigua catedral, la observa, de su maletín saca un martillo y comienza a dar golpecitos a cada piedra. ¿Qué pretende? Está verificando si son auténticas. Es el hombre de este siglo, dice el sacerdote José Kentenich. Es una generación que cuestiona la veracidad de las piedras de las viejas catedrales. Y uno de esos monumentos cuestionados es el encuentro amoroso entre el varón y la mujer que funda familia y es cimiento de la sociedad. ¿Se puede amar hoy y para siempre? Ese tipo de preguntas plantearon un grupo de matrimonios que se reunían con el padre Kentenich todos los días lunes por la tarde, en Milwaukee, Estados Unidos, durante la primera mitad de la década del 60. Esas conversaciones están recopiladas en más de 20 tomos. Ahora, Editorial Schoenstatt ha traducido uno de ellos, correspondiente a 1961. En estas páginas, el autor asume el tema de la sexualidad en la relación entre un hombre y una mujer unidos por el Sacramento del matrimonio en la perspectiva del Evangelio. Aún más, señala esa vida en común como un hermoso camino de santidad. Los comentarios y aplicaciones de la enseñanza de San Pablo son especialmente valiosos y contundentes. En este libro, mejor dicho en estas “reuniones de lunes por la tarde”, el amor conyugal es enaltecido de una manera sorprendente. Por ejemplo dice: “Les repito que no hay otro amor humano que genere una biunidad tan profunda como lo hace el amor conyugal. ¿Por qué? Porque presupone y entraña una de biunidad corporal, psicológica y espiritual. De ahí que también podamos afirmar que no existe otro amor terreno que sea un reflejo tan fiel del Amor Divino intra trinitario como el amor conyugal”. Y cómo son “reuniones de lunes por la tarde” tienen el tono de un coloquio donde se se suman situaciones humanas e históricas. Ese tono se ha conservado en la traducción.

En la serie Lunes por la tarde… continuamos publicando progresivamente las pláticas para matrimonios pronunciadas por el P. José Kentenich entre los años 1955 y 1964 en Milwaukee, Estados Unidos. Este segundo volumen presenta la lucha por la santidad en la vida cotidiana en el contexto de la situación del hombre moderno. En los textos de este tomo se trata de grabaciones magnetofónicas que recogen las palabras del P. Kentenich tal como él las pronunciara. En el proceso de edición se han corregido errores de dicción o impresiones estilísticas y gramaticales que, evidentemente, se dieron por la forma espontánea en que fueron pronunciadas las pláticas. Hemos colocado entre paréntesis los complementos que parecían necesarios para la comprensión del texto. El tono coloquial y la necesidad de retomar el hilo de la plática después de cada digresión dan como resultado un estilo propio y particular, que no hemos querido alterar. De ese modo se ofrece la posibilidad de colocarse en la situación de entonces y y de escuchar, por así decirlo, personalmente al P. Kentenich. Agradecemos al Instituto de Familias de Schoenstatt por su colaboración en la planificación de la serie como también en la edición del presente volumen.
