Why did the Nazis start excavation campaigns all over the world and what were they really searching for? Lux in arcana sheds light on the Third Reich secrets through the careful historical reconstruction of one of the scholars hired by the SS. Alexander Wagner, a Luftwaffe officer, recalls the circumstances in which he was the key player of a perilous search for the truth about the origins of the Aryan race and the leading monotheistic faiths. Führer's Germany and Egypt during the Thirties are the theater of the fast-paced story of Wagner, both prey and predator of the Ahnenerbe. As a matter of fact, the think-tank of the SS plans to manipulate his studies on the Templar Sator and his discoveries for eugenic purposes. The most important battle, though, is the one he fights against his own conscience, exacerbated by his charming and seductive travel companion, but appeased by the unconditional love of the only woman who can read through his soul. A novel that spares no turn of events and balances documented historical facts and esotericism, while searching for Heinrich Himmler's and SS chimera. Lux in arcana: Winner of the Milano Donna Special Award - Milano International Literary Award (2020) - IV Edition - Promoter: Associazione Culturale Pegasus Cattolica

As Archivist and Librarian of the Holy Roman Church, I have the rare pleasure of presenting the catalogue of an exhibition that concerns not only an institution as prestigious as Vatican Secret Archives, but also an equally prestigious Roman municipal institution, the Capitoline Museums, which are hosting the event. For the first time ever, very ancient papal documents and significant papers concerning the life of the Church in the world are issuing from the Vatican Walls and opening up to visitors'eyes on Rome's Capitol Hill, the traditional seat of the city's government. -- Publisher.

Documents are milestones and markers of human activity, part of who and what we are. Our story can be told through the objects, profound and trivial, famous and forgotten, by which we remember and are remembered. Documents That Changed the Way We Live examines dozens of compelling stories that describe these documents; their creation, motivation, influence, importance, historical and social context, provenance; and their connections to contemporary information objects, technologies, and trends. These documents include the following: “Exaltation of Innana,” a Sumerian hymn composed c. 2300 BCE by the high priestess Enheduanna, likely the first known author…of anything The “We Can Do It!” poster everybody knows is Rosie the Riveter calling women to work in the factories in World War II. Except it’s not, and she isn’t Joseph McCarthy’s “list” of Communists that ruined lives and careers, because it was believed - even though it never existed The “He has waged cruel war…” passage on slavery, deleted from the Declaration of Independence The poorly designed Palm Beach County “butterfly ballot,” on which the 2000 U.S. presidential election may have hinged And the lesser-known stories behind the Zapruder Film, the Watergate tapes, the Obama birth certificate, airplane black boxes, Thanksgiving, IQ tests, the Star-Spangled Banner, why Americans spell the way they do, Nobel Prizes, Wikipedia, and how you’re cooking dinner tonight

Papal Bull written by Margaret Meserve and has been published by JHU Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-08-03 with Technology & Engineering categories.

How did Europe's oldest political institution come to grips with the disruptive new technology of print? Printing thrived after it came to Rome in the 1460s. Renaissance scholars, poets, and pilgrims in the Eternal City formed a ready market for mass-produced books. But Rome was also a capital city—seat of the Renaissance papacy, home to its bureaucracy, and a hub of international diplomacy—and print played a role in these circles, too. In Papal Bull, Margaret Meserve uncovers a critical new dimension of the history of early Italian printing by revealing how the Renaissance popes wielded print as a political tool. Over half a century of war and controversy—from approximately 1470 to 1520—the papacy and its agents deployed printed texts to potent effect, excommunicating enemies, pursuing diplomatic alliances, condemning heretics, publishing indulgences, promoting new traditions, and luring pilgrims and their money to the papal city. Early modern historians have long stressed the innovative press campaigns of the Protestant Reformers, but Meserve shows that the popes were even earlier adopters of the new technology, deploying mass communication many decades before Luther. The papacy astutely exploited the new medium to broadcast ancient claims to authority and underscore the centrality of Rome to Catholic Christendom. Drawing on a vast archive, Papal Bull reveals how the Renaissance popes used print to project an authoritarian vision of their institution and their capital city, even as critics launched blistering attacks in print that foreshadowed the media wars of the coming Reformation. Papal publishing campaigns tested longstanding principles of canon law promulgation, developed new visual and graphic vocabularies, and prompted some of Europe's first printed pamphlet wars. An exciting interdisciplinary study based on new literary, historical, and bibliographical evidence, this book will appeal to students and scholars of the Italian Renaissance, the Reformation, and the history of the book.
