Ánxel Vázquez de la Cruz nació en Tui (Pontevedra) en 1942. Estudió Medicina en Santiago y tuvo su primer trabajo como médico de guardia en los hospitales de beneficencia de Pontevedra y Vigo. Hizo la especialidad de Pediatría y Neonatología en el Hospital Vall d’Hebron de Barcelona, donde trabajó posteriormente hasta incorporarse a finales del 74 al hospital de la Seguridad Social de A Coruña, donde fue jefe de servicio y director del hospital materno infantil. De su época de estudiante datan sus primeros escritos, relatos y artículos de opinión publicados en la prensa. También ha escrito para distintas revistas literarias en lengua gallega y es autor del guión de la película A Romería da Morte, Premio Ramón Dagá de Cine Social de Granollers, 1975. En 2010 publica Luz de Tebra (Edicións Xerais de Galicia), que obtiene ese mismo año un extraordinario éxito por parte de lectores y crítica especializada, convirtiéndose en esos meses en el libro más vendido de Galicia en lengua gallega. The existence of a early Spanish translation of Erasmus’s Encomium Moriae has been matter of speculation and unsuccessful research for over a century. This volume offers for the first time the edition of a seventeenth-century manuscript discovered at Ets Haim/Livraria Montezinos (Amsterdam) by its editors. They demonstrate that it is not only the first known early modern Spanish translation of Erasmus’s chef-d’œuvre, but a copy of a much earlier version, composed in mid-sixteenth century. This scholarly edition has been arranged for an easy textual collation with the canonical edition (ASD IV: 3) and translation (CWE 27) of Erasmus’s Praise of Folly and includes an extensive apparatus of footnotes devoted both to this version and to Erasmus’s Moriae Encomium itself.
