"Médicos Cubanos; Esclavos o Cimarrones" Aquellos lectores que tengan interés en conocer un poco más sobre la perversidad con que el Gobierno Comunista Cubano ha tratado a sus médicos, entonces no deberían perder la oportunidad de leer este libro. Este relato no es una ficción ni el producto de una imaginación creativa, sino que es una historia real que fue vivida por un grupo de médicos cubanos cuando trabajaban como esclavos del Gobierno Comunista Cubano en la República de Sudafrica. Los hechos ocurrieron en el año 2003. El título del libro se explica por sí solo, ya que los médicos cubanos solamente tienen esas dos opciones; conformarse a ser esclavos de por vida, o huir y convertirse en cimarrones. El autor Jorge Luis Pérez Donato hace una descripción de los hechos ocurridos, los cuales se entrelazan con todas las patrañas que acostumbra a usar cotidianamente la Dictadura Comunista Cubana; mentiras, coerciones, intimidaciones, irrespeto a los derechos humanos, abusos, odio y todo lo perverso que pueda emanar de una mente humana. Todo eso fue lo que el dictador Fidel Castro engañando al pueblo le dejó por herencia a Cuba. En el relato de los hechos se muestra como la Embajada Cubana de Pretoria presionó a las autoridades del Sistema de Salud para que despidieran del trabajo a aquel grupo de médicos, lo que provocó una confrontación en la Corte de Justicia Laboral de Sudáfrica. Todo al final tuvo un desenlace que fue como un golpe demoledor a todos los que quisieron abusar de aquel grupo de médicos. Los hechos se relatan de una forma estrechamente vinculada a la historia de Cuba después del año 1959, donde se puede ver de manera muy clara como la Dictadura Castrista tomó las riendas de un país próspero, y que lo han convertido en una miseria total, donde los ineptos y oportunistas nuevos gobernantes no tienen intención de cambiar el rumbo de Cuba hacia el abismo. En el relato también se dejan claros los objetivos del dictador Fidel Castro cuando quiso convertir a Cuba en una potencia médica mundial. Esa potencia médica desde el principio él la concibió como un lucrativo negocio basado en la explotación de sus médicos esclavos enviándolos a trabajar a otros países del mundo. Así, la historia de los médicos cubanos en Sudáfrica se tejió con hilos de esclavitud, liberación y esperanza. Este relato es una gota en el gran océano de la historia, pero tiene la intención que esa gota resplandezca en un rincón de la memoria colectiva y ofrezca luz a las generaciones venideras.

This book deals with Chinese immigrants' role in the struggle for Cuban liberation and in Cuba's twentieth-century revolutionary social movement; the history of the Chinese economy in Cuba; and the Chinese contribution to Cuban music, painting, food, sport, and language. The centerpiece of the book is a translation of a study by Mauro Garc'a Triana and Pedro Eng Herrera on the history of the Chinese presence in Cuba. Over many years, Garc'a and Eng have collaborated closely on scholarly research on the Chinese contribution to Cuban life and politics, although their work is not widely known. Both are well equipped for such an enterprise: Eng as a Cuban of Chinese descent and a participant in the ethnic-Chinese revolutionary movement in Cuba, starting in the 1950s; Garc'a as a participant in the struggle against Batista and Cuban Ambassador to China during the period of the Cultural Revolution. The study is supplemented by an extensive collection of archival photographs and of paintings on Cuban-Chinese themes by Pedro Eng, who is not just a chronicler of the community but a well-known worker-artist who paints in a style described by commentators as 'naive.' The volume has three appendices: excerpts from the Cuba Commission's 1877 report on Chinese emigration to Cuba; the rebel leader Gonzalo de Quesada y Ar-stegui's pamphlet 'The Chinese and Cuban Independence,' translated from his book Mi primera ofrenda (My first offering), first published in 1892; and the chapter on 'Coolie Life in Cuba' from Duvon Clough Corbitt's Study of the Chinese in Cuba, 1847-1947 (Wilmore 1971).
