Fatigue failure of structures used in transportation, industry, medical equipment, and electronic components needs to build a link between cutting-edge experimental characterization and probabilistically grounded numerical and artificially intelligent tools. The physics involved in this process chain is computationally prohibitive to comprehend using traditional computation methods. Using machine learning and Bayesian statistics, a defect-correlated estimate of fatigue strength was developed. Fatigue, which is a random variable, is studied in a Bayesian-based machine learning algorithm. The stress-life model was used based on the compatibility condition of life and load distributions. The defect-correlated assessment of fatigue strength was established using the proposed machine learning and Bayesian statistics algorithms. It enabled the mapping of structural and process-induced fatigue characteristics into a geometry-independent load density chart across a wide range of fatigue regimes.

This book presents the result of an innovative challenge, to create a systematic literature overview driven by machine-generated content. Questions and related keywords were prepared for the machine to query, discover, collate and structure by Artificial Intelligence (AI) clustering. The AI-based approach seemed especially suitable to provide an innovative perspective as the topics are indeed both complex, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary, for example, climate, planetary and evolution sciences. Springer Nature has published much on these topics in its journals over the years, so the challenge was for the machine to identify the most relevant content and present it in a structured way that the reader would find useful. The automatically generated literature summaries in this book are intended as a springboard to further discoverability. They are particularly useful to readers with limited time, looking to learn more about the subject quickly and especially if they are new to the topics. Springer Nature seeks to support anyone who needs a fast and effective start in their content discovery journey, from the undergraduate student exploring interdisciplinary content to Master- or PhD-thesis developing research questions, to the practitioner seeking support materials, this book can serve as an inspiration, to name a few examples. It is important to us as a publisher to make the advances in technology easily accessible to our authors and find new ways of AI-based author services that allow human-machine interaction to generate readable, usable, collated, research content.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is currently one of the most talked-about technologies, both among scientists and in public media. Several factors have contributed to its development in recent years. The first is access to vast quantities of data, such as in the industrial field, the advent of Industry 4.0, which promotes automation and data sharing in several technologies. Another factor is the continuous improvement in computing power thanks to the development of ever more powerful processors and the optimization of algorithms. With these two limitations removed, the focus of most AI developments is on the quality of predictions. The integration of AI into the industrial domain represents an exciting new frontier for innovation. Just as AI has transformed many other sectors, its application to mechanical technologies enables significant improvements in design, manufacturing and quality control processes: from computer-aided design (CAD) to printing parameter optimization, defect detection and real-time monitoring. This type of technology requires computer systems, data with management systems and advanced algorithms which can be used by AIs. In mechanical engineering, AI offers many possibilities in mechanical construction, predictive maintenance, plant monitoring, robotics, additive manufacturing, materials, vibration, etc. Methods and Applications of Artificial Intelligence is dedicated to the methods and applications of AI in mechanical engineering. Each chapter clearly sets out the techniques used and developed and accompanies them with illustrative examples. The book is aimed at students but is also a valuable resource for practicing engineers and research lecturers.

Recent developments in engineering and technology have brought about serious and enlarged demands for reliability, safety and economy in wide range of fields such as aeronautics, nuclear engineering, civil and structural engineering, automotive and production industry. This, in turn, has caused more interest in continuum damage mechanics and its engineering applications. This book aims to give a concise overview of the current state of damage mechanics, and then to show the fascinating possibility of this promising branch of mechanics, and to provide researchers, engineers and graduate students with an intelligible and self-contained textbook. The book consists of two parts and an appendix. Part I is concerned with the foundation of continuum damage mechanics. Basic concepts of material damage and the mechanical representation of damage state of various kinds are described in Chapters 1 and 2. In Chapters 3-5, irreversible thermodynamics, thermodynamic constitutive theory and its application to the modeling of the constitutive and the evolution equations of damaged materials are descried as a systematic basis for the subsequent development throughout the book. Part II describes the application of the fundamental theories developed in Part I to typical damage and fracture problems encountered in various fields of the current engineering. Important engineering aspects of elastic-plastic or ductile damage, their damage mechanics modeling and their further refinement are first discussed in Chapter 6. Chapters 7 and 8 are concerned with the modeling of fatigue, creep, creep-fatigue and their engineering application. Damage mechanics modeling of complicated crack closure behavior in elastic-brittle and composite materials are discussed in Chapters 9 and 10. In Chapter 11, applicability of the local approach to fracture by means of damage mechanics and finite element method, and the ensuing mathematical and numerical problems are briefly discussed. A proper understanding of the subject matter requires knowledge of tensor algebra and tensor calculus. At the end of this book, therefore, the foundations of tensor analysis are presented in the Appendix, especially for readers with insufficient mathematical background, but with keen interest in this exciting field of mechanics.

Cold Spray Technology written by Anatolii Papyrin and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-10-04 with Science categories.
The topic of this book is Cold Spray technology. Cold Spray is a process of applying coatings by exposing a metallic or dielectric substrate to a high velocity (300 to 1200 m/s) jet of small (1 to 50 μm) particles accelerated by a supersonic jet of compressed gas. This process is based on the selection of the combination of particle temperature, velocity, and size that allows spraying at the lowest temperature possible. In the Cold Spray process, powder particles are accelerated by the supersonic gas jet at a temperature that is always lower than the melting point of the material, resulting in coating formation from particles in the solid state. As a consequence, the deleterious effects of high-temperature oxidation, evaporation, melting, crystallization, residual stresses, gas release, and other common problems for traditional thermal spray methods are minimized or eliminated. This book is the first of its kind on the Cold Spray process. Cold Spray Technology covers a wide spectrum of various aspects of the Cold Spray technology, including gas-dynamics, physics of interaction of high-speed solid particles with a substrate as well as equipment, technologies, and applications. Cold Spray Technology includes the results of more than 20 years of original studies (1984-2005) conducted at the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the Siberian Division of the Russian Academy of Science, as well as the results of studies conducted at most of the research centres around the world. The authors' goal is threefold. The first goal is to explain basic principles and advantages of the Cold Spray process. The second goal is, to give practical information on technologies and equipment. The third goal is to present the current state of research and development in this field over the world. The book provides coverage and data that will be of interest for users of Cold Spray technology as well as for other coating experts. At the present time the Cold Spray method is recognized by world leading scientists and specialists. A wide spectrum of research is being conducted at many research centres and companies in many countries. New approach to spray coatings Results are exceptionally pure coatings Low spray temperature without degradation of powder and substrate materials High productivity, high deposition efficiency High operational safety because of absence of high temperature gas jets, radiation and explosive gases Excellent thermal and electrical conductivity Wide spectrum of applications because of important advantages of the process
