Thoroughly revised to reflect the macroeconomic issues of the twenty-first century, Macroeconomics, Ninth Edition combines classic, time-tested pedagogy with a fresh treatment of timely topics and the use of the most current data. The Ninth Edition represents the most complete revision in many years. While retaining its organization of income determination, the IS-LM model, and the SP-DG inflation model up front, this edition applies the recent ups and downs of the U.S. New Economy to make the study of business cycles, monetary and fiscal policy, inflation, saving, and investment more exciting and more relevant than ever. New to this edition is a chapter (11) that grapples with the big questions of economic growth and develops an analysis that goes beyond the standard theories and builds on the best research in the field. The text is universally praised for consistently holding up the theory to the magnifying glass of reality, and this edition is no exception. Substantive case studies and international perspective boxes-including the 9/11 disaster as a classic shock to supply and demand-bolster the macroeconomic theory.

Teaching Post Keynesian Economics written by Jesper Jespersen and has been published by Edward Elgar Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-01-01 with Business & Economics categories.

This book contends that post Keynesian economics has its own methodological and didactic basis, and its realistic analysis is much-needed in the current economic and financial crisis. At a time when the original message of KeynesÕ General Theory is no longer present in the most university syllabuses, this book celebrates the uniqueness of teaching post Keynesian economics, providing comparisons with traditional economic rationale and illustrating the advantages of post Keynesian pedagogy. Against a backdrop in which neo-classical textbooks prevail, the expert contributors demonstrate that Keynes and The General Theory possess indispensable insight that would furnish students with a clearer understanding of the world economy in which they live. They explore the teaching of post Keynesian economics from a number of different perspectives, covering topics such as open system theorizing, pluralism in teaching, rhetoric in the spirit of Keynes, uncertainty, expectations and money. A critique of mainstream and traditional economic textbooks is also provided. This highly unique and fascinating book will provide an invaluable reference tool for teachers and researchers in post Keynesian economics, as well as their students.

This thesis contributes to two fields of macroeconomics. The first two chapters contribute to the literature that investigates the role of household heterogeneity, in terms of marginal propensity to consume and labor income, for the 'optimal' design of fiscal policies. The first chapter explores how the introduction of household heterogeneity alters the prescriptions derived from the standard optimal fiscal policy framework that only accounts for a representative agent. When heterogeneity is accounted for the government uses taxation and transfers as a redistributing device that only partially corrects for fluctuations in income inequality. The second chapter builds on the results of the first. It develops a quantitative model that is estimated with US data on income and consumption dispersion among households. The model is then used to assess the relevance of the actual US fiscal policy. Unexpectedly, it concludes that the US fiscal policy is close to optimal. The third chapter contributes to the literature that is at the crossroad of the fields of history of macroeconomics and of macroeconomic pedagogy. It aims at reflecting on the theory used in the first two chapters of the thesis and in the teaching of macroeconomics. It identifies and discuss the deep methodological discrepancy between the theory used in research and graduate macroeconomics courses, on the one hand, and in undergraduate macroeconomic courses, in the other hand.
