"This book is well organized and comprehensive . . . an eloquent and enduring statement of significant hydrodynamic principles." — AIChE Journal Microhydrodynamics concerns the flow and related phenomena pertinent to the motion of small particles suspended in viscous fluids. This text focuses on determining the motion of a particle or particles through a viscous fluid in bounded and unbounded flow. Its central theme is the mobility relation between particle motion and forces. Microhydrodynamics: Principles and Selected Applications functions as a manual that explains methods for solving particulate flows at low-Reynolds number, from analytical to computational methods. The ever-increasing growth in computational power has resulted in a similar growth in the range of solvable problems in microhydrodynamics. Suitable for graduate students in engineering and applied mathematics, this text treats the mathematical foundations and highlights the interplay of both mathematical and physical insights, guiding readers through single particle theory and problems related to multiparticle analyses.

Drawing on the author's lectures on fluid mechanics modeling, this text takes a rigorous approach to the topic while maintaining a clear, easy-to-understand style. It deals with the main physical phenomena that occur in slow, inertialess viscous flows commonly encountered in various industrial, biophysical, and natural processes. Suitable for students in chemical or mechanical engineering, bioengineering, and physics, the book discusses a wide variety of topics, including confined flows, complex fluids, and rheology. Each situation is illustrated with examples and multi-part problems that stress analytical solutions and the physical interpretation of the mathematical results.

Latvian physicists discuss the full range of properties of magnetic fluids as colloidal systems and their interactions with external fields, including the main physical, hydrodynamic, and thermophysical problems. The topics include the magnetic properties of colloidal ferromagnetics, the structure of ferromagnetic colloids, models of magnetizing fluids, quasi- equilibrium hydrodynamics, internal rotations, the transfer of heat and mass, and preparation. Modeling Of Magnetic Particle Suspensions For Simulations written by Akira Satoh and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-02-03 with Science categories.
The main objective of the book is to highlight the modeling of magnetic particles with different shapes and magnetic properties, to provide graduate students and young researchers information on the theoretical aspects and actual techniques for the treatment of magnetic particles in particle-based simulations. In simulation, we focus on the Monte Carlo, molecular dynamics, Brownian dynamics, lattice Boltzmann and stochastic rotation dynamics (multi-particle collision dynamics) methods. The latter two simulation methods can simulate both the particle motion and the ambient flow field simultaneously. In general, specialized knowledge can only be obtained in an effective manner under the supervision of an expert. The present book is written to play such a role for readers who wish to develop the skill of modeling magnetic particles and develop a computer simulation program using their own ability. This book is therefore a self-learning book for graduate students and young researchers. Armed with this knowledge, readers are expected to be able to sufficiently enhance their skill for tackling any challenging problems they may encounter in future.

Active colloids are self-propelled particles, powered by energy harvested from the environment. This field of research has been growing over the past 20 years, attracting researchers from multiple disciplines. Biomedical engineers seek to harness the abilities of motile bacteria, materials chemists are fascinated by the concept of synthetic particles becoming autonomous and the new opportunities this presents, and soft matter physicists see active colloids as a model system for active matter, unravelling the principles of nonequilibrium systems. Beginning with the fundamentals, this book discusses the various types of active colloids, classified by energy source, as well as microbial active colloids. Several chapters are dedicated to theory and modelling, followed by an exploration of major developments and research frontiers. With expert contributions from around the world, this book is a useful reference and a source of inspiration for new and experienced researchers.
