In un caldo ferragosto torinese Ulisse muore investito da un'auto: di lui non si conosce praticamente nulla: uomo irreprensibile, gran lavoratore, tranquillo e affabile con tutti ma senza amici e apparentemente senza affetti famigliari, insomma un'esistenza banale finita in un ancor più banale incidente. In una Torino a tratti grotteschi, a tratti simpaticamente famigliare, ormai lontana dal mito ambivalente della Grande Fabbrica ma ancora alla ricerca di una identità ben definita, si dipana una trama gialla che porterà il dottor Daidola fin nella lontana e ammaliante Sicilia, alla ricerca della soluzione di un dramma che ha le sue radici in un tempo lontano.
