NU dan Proklamasi Betapa keramatnya proklamasi kemerdekaan kita. Berikut kata-kata Bung Karno di hadapan para pemuda yang dipimpin Soekarni. “Saya seorang yang percaya pada mistik. Saya tidak dapat menerangkan dengan pertimbangan akal, mengapa tanggal 17 lebih memberi harapan kepadaku. Akan tetapi saya merasakan di dalam kalbuku, bahwa itu adalah saat yang baik. Angka 17 adalah angka suci. Pertama-tama kita sedang berada dalam bulan suci Ramadhan, waktu kita semua berpuasa, ini berarti saat yang paling suci bagi kita. Tanggal 17 besok hari Jumat, hari Jumat itu Jumat legi, Jumat yang berbahagia, Jumat suci. Al-Quran diturunkan tanggal 17, orang Islam sembahyang 17 rakaat, oleh karena itu kesucian angka 17 bukanlah buatan manusia.” Ini diucapkan sendiri oleh Baung Karno ketika menghadapi beberapa pemuda di Rengasdengklok yang memaksa Bung Karno memprolamirkan kemerdekaan sedini mungkin. Proklamasi dideklarasikan betul pada hari Jumat legi, 9 Ramadhan 1364 H atau 17 Agustus 1945, pukul 10.00, sebelum melaksanakan salat Jumat di jalan Pegangsaan Timur (sekarang Jalan Proklamasi). Bung Karno pidato pendek. “Saudara-saudara! Dengan ini kami menyatakan kebulatan tekad itu. Dengarkanlah Proklamasi kami: PROKLAMASI; Kami bangsa Indonesia dengan ini menyatakan Kemerdekaan Indonesia . Hal-hal yang mengenai pemindahan kekuasaan dan lain-lain, diselenggarakan dengan cara seksama dan dalam tempo yang sesingkat-singkatnya. Jakarta, 17 Agustus 1945. Atas nama bangsa Indonesia Soekarno/Hatta. Demikianlah saudara-saudara! Kita sekarang telah merdeka. Tidak ada satu ikatan lagi yang mengikat tanah air kita dan bangsa kita! Mulai saat ini kita menyusun Negara kita! Negara Merdeka. Negara Republik Indonesia merdeka, kekal, dan abadi. Insya Allah, Tuhan memberkati kemerdekaan kita itu.” Setelah itu pengibaran bendera Sang Saka merah putih. Momentum Ramadhan dan hari Jumat adalah momentum yang tepat untuk menampaikan berita kemerdekaan. Dua jam setelah poroklamasi itu, doa dilpanjatkan umat Islam di masjid-masjid Jakarta. Radio juga menyiarkan setiap setengah jam projlamsi kemerdekaan itu. Dari situlah kemudian berita kemerdekan Indonesia mengalir sampai jauh.

Maka dari itu pentingnya menghentikan konflik ideologi bangsa dengan pemikiran besar tentang Islam dan cinta tanah air yang dahulu pernah ditawarkan Kiai Abdul Wahab Hasbullah kembali menjadi rujukan bagi kehidupan berbangsa dan bernegara dewasa ini. Perdebatan mengenai ideologi bangsa sangat membuang energi dan pikiran, karena sudah jelas bahwa Indonesia bukan negara Islam Kiai Abdul Wahab Hasbullah dengan pemikiran Islam dan cinta tanah air yang menghasilkan slogan hubbul wathon minal iman menjadi salah satu tokoh yang berhasil mempersatukan dan menemukan titik temu antara Islam dan nasionalisme yang secara eksplisit pertemuan itu juga menjadi landasan besar bagi terciptanya kesadaran nasionalisme dan kerukunan. Selanjutnya dalam pemikiran Islam dan cinta tanah air Kiai Abdul Wahab Hasbullah juga harus digaris bawahi bahwa sangat terkandung di dalamnya Nila-nilai toleransi pluralitas yang terbingkai ke dalam semangat nasionalisme Kiai Wahab yang kemudian juga menjadi argumen kuat beliau bahwa Islam dan nasionalisme tidak selalu bertentangan bahkan dapat berjalan beriringan dengan mencintai tanah air dan segenap yang ada di dalamnya dan menghiasi kemerdekaan yang diperoleh dengan menerima keberagaman. Kiai Abdul Wahab Hasbullah adalah seorang yang berkarya di atas tanah dengan memperjuangkan negara yang harmonis hal itu di buktikan dengan gelar Pahlawan Nasional yang diperoleh beliau. Ia adalah sosok ulama dan kiai yang berpikir moderat, pragmatis, dan terbuka. Dari Kiai Wahab inilah kita akhirnya mengetahui pemikiran dan perjuangan dari sosok kiai tradisional tersebut, atau Nahdlatul Ulama.
