Today, virtually every organization faces massive change. Unfortunately, change is extraordinarily difficult, and most attempts to initiate and sustain it fail. In It Starts with One, J. Stewart Black and Hal B Gregersen identify the core problem: changing individuals and the “mental maps” inside their heads must happen before you can change the organization. Just as actual maps guide people’s footsteps, mental maps guide daily behavior. Successful strategic change for the organization is all about changing individual mental maps and behaviors first, because they are the organization. To change organizations, you must break through your own brain barrier—and help those around you do the same. One step at a time, It Starts with One shows how to do that: how to create new destinations, and new, more inspiring effective paths to sustainable change. Black and Gregersen systematically identify the brain barriers that stand in your way: failure to see, failure to move, and failure to finish. Drawing on their extensive experience consulting with world-class organizations, they offer integrated tools, strategies, and solutions for overcoming each of these obstacles. This edition offers even more effective tools, more guidance on leading change in globalizing environments, and more insight into changing your own mental maps...liberating yourself to transform your entire organization. Overcoming the failure to see Why organizations miss obvious market transformations—and what to do about it Breaking through the failure to move Why people fail to change even when they see the need—and how to break through this barrier Conquering the failure to finish Why change “stalls out” and how to maintain the momentum Anticipating change Why too often people let the need to change become a crisis before acting—to build to a crisis before acting—and how to create the capability to anticipate change, move when needed, and finish in the future without “being told” To Change the Organization, First Change the Individual. To Change the Individual, Read This Book! Seventy percent of organizations that seek strategic change fail. Organizations can’t change because individuals don’t change. Individuals don’t change because powerful mental maps stand in their way. This book offers a powerful, start-to-finish strategy for helping people redraw their mental maps—and unleash their power to deliver superior, sustained strategic change. Thoroughly updated with new techniques, case studies, and examples, this book offers even more valuable insights for today’s leaders and managers. Among the highlights: a detailed new discussion of how you must change in order to lead change...new guidance on leading change in global environments...and more integrated tools and solutions you can start using today!

Making Change Happen written by Kevin Cook and has been published by ANU E Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-09-11 with History categories.

This book is a unique window into a dynamic time in the politics and history of Australia. The two decades from 1970 to the Bicentennial in 1988 saw the emergence of a new landscape in Australian Indigenous politics. There were struggles, triumphs and defeats around land rights, community control of organisations, national coalitions and the international movement for Indigenous rights. The changes of these years generated new roles for Aboriginal people. Leaders had to grapple with demands to be administrators and managers as well as spokespeople and lobbyists. The challenges were personal as well as organisational, with a central one being how to retain personal integrity in the highly politicised atmosphere of the ‘Aboriginal Industry’. Kevin Cook was in the middle of many of these changes – as a unionist, educator, land rights campaigner, cultural activist and advocate for liberation movements in Southern Africa, the Pacific and around the world. But ‘Cookie’ has not wanted to tell the story of his own life in these pages. Instead, with Heather Goodall, a long time friend, he has gathered together many of the activists with whom he worked to tell their stories of this important time. Readers are invited into the frank and vivid conversations Cookie had with forty-five black and white activists about what they wanted to achieve, the plans they made, and the risks they took to make change happen. “You never doubted Kevin Cook. His very presence made you confident because the guiding hand is always there. Equal attention is given to all. I am one of many who worked with Cookie and Judy through the Tranby days and in particular the 1988 Bicentennial March for Freedom, Justice and Hope. What days they were. I’m glad this story is being told.” Linda Burney, MLA New South Wales “Kevin Cook was a giant in the post-war struggle for Aboriginal rights. His ability to connect the dots and make things happen was important in both the political and cultural resurgence of the 1970s onwards.” Meredith Burgmann, former MLC, New South Wales “Kevin has had a transformative effect on the direction of my life and the lives of so many other people. This book is an important contribution to understanding not only Kevin’s life but also the broader struggles for social and economic justice, for community empowerment and of the cooperative progressive movement. It will greatly assist the ongoing campaign for full and sustainable reconciliation.” Paddy Crumlin, National Secretary, Maritime Union of Australia “Cookie has made great contributions in enhancing the struggles of our people. He is a motivator, an astute strategist, and an excellent communicator with wonderful people skills. It’s a pleasure to be able to call him a mate and a brother.” John Ah Kit, former MLA, Northern Territory

Making Change Happen written by Bill Lamperes and has been published by R&L Education this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Education categories.

Educators will find more than sixty strategies and reflections to help guide the success of any new or experienced school leader. Beginning with methods of assessing the organization's culture, the book expands on ways to empower staff, students, and community members to embrace change. It is filled with creative approaches that make more out of less, work with individuals from an asset model, and assess results. This book examines the process used by one Colorado school to achieve two, five-year visions and to change its image in the community. Once staff, students, parents, and community stakeholders "catch the vision," programs, people and resources are aligned to promote success. As a result, the school, once slated for the financial chopping block, effectively moved from potential closure to national recognition as an exemplary program. Like its unique programs, most of the visions strategies can be replicated and adapted to any organizational setting. For aspiring or veteran principals or school leaders.
