Based on the Liverpool Desistance Study, this book compares and contrasts the stories of ex-convicts who are actively involved in criminal behavior with those who are desisting from crime and drug use. Extensive excerpts from the study reveal two types of personal narratives: a "condemnation" script favored by active offenders and a "generative" script favored by desisters. The way that these scripts are constructed and the manner in which they are used is then examined in light of contemporary criminological and psychological thought. The results suggests that success in reform depends on providing rehabilitative opportunities that reinforce the generative script. This study reveals a constructive new direction for offender rehabilitation efforts and will appeal to a wide range of readers from psychologists and criminologists to legislators, administrators, substance abuse counselors, and offenders themselves. Students between the ages of 9-15 often seem to exist in a Twilight Zone between childhood and functioning adulthood. These critical years are an essential time to teach those adolescents to accept responsibility for the consequences of their own behaviour, to recognize that mistakes can be an opportunity for learning, and to formulate and live with classroom rules and community rules that promote responsibility, respect, and self-discipline. Richard L Curwin offers teachers eight classroom-ready strategies that will help their students make good choices for good behaviour in the classroom and then transfer those behaviours to the real world outside school.

Making Good written by Trevor A. Hart and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with Christianity and art categories.

God spoke, and all that is and all that ever will be came into existence. God alone can be called uncreated and Creator, and creation can only accomplish that which already exists within God's imagination. In Making Good, Trevor Hart argues that human creativity is always a matter of unfolding the possibilities already latent within the original creative event. Making Good contends that while humans must acknowledge the unique and incomparable dimensions of God's creative activity, the biblical theology of creation encourages rather than prohibits human creativity within a language of creation. Hart's basic contention is that the God known as the Father of Jesus Christ is no domineering deity who jealously seeks to protect his creative prerogatives, but one whose own creativity calls forth, inspires, and enables creative responses on the part of his human creatures. Making Good blends biblical, historical, and systematic theology into conversation with philosophy, aesthetics, and developments in creative theory among the social sciences. Hart renders a theological account of human artistry and the wider human activities of making good.

Making Good — one of the classic and original works on restorative justice — argues that the real need in restorative justice is for fundamental rethinking, rather than short-term tinkering, with a prison system in an intolerable state of crisis. In this second edition — which also includes a new foreword by one of the UK's leading penal reformers — author Martin Wright demonstrates that neither the conservative idea of deterrence through punishment nor the liberal ideal of rehabilitation has worked in practice. In their place, he proposes the basis for a radical but carefully worked out practical philosophy, which would place the emphasis on the offender making amends to the victim, and society for the damage caused. ò

This highly original and compelling book offers an introduction to the art and science of social inquiry, including the theoretical and methodological frameworks that support that inquiry. The new edition offers coverage of post-modernism and Indigenous ways of knowing, as well as a discussion of the research process and how to communicate arguments effectively. The result is a book that blends the best of earlier editions with updates that provide a strong foundation in critical thinking, rooted in the social sciences but relevant across disciplines.
