The objective of this project was to research and delineate guidelines for the improvement of information provision in vehicles and transportation terminals. The overall goal is to enhance accessibility for elderly and disabled persons. Transportation is particularly sensitive to the need to inform and be informed. Throughout the travel process, access to information is vital if the traveller and the service provider are to have complete awareness and understanding. People with cognitive, sensory, intellectual or physical disabilities must not be barred from receiving the information required. Without it they will miss important clues to the current situation and to their environment. Environmental communications is a term used to describe the information people need to understand where they are and how to reach a given destination. The term covers general information about setting, directions to and identification of destinations and information about operarional procedures. Environmental communications can be provided by visual, auditory or tactile means. This report considers each means, and offers guidelines for the provision of information in ways that are accessible to all travellers.

Planning For Public Transport Accessibility written by Carey Curtis and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-05-05 with Political Science categories.

Bringing together a comparative analysis of the accessibility by public transport of 23 cities spanning four continents, this book provides a "hands-on" introduction to the evolution, rationale and effectiveness of a new generation of accessibility planning tools that have emerged since the mid-2000s. The Spatial Network Analysis for Multimodal Urban Transport Systems (SNAMUTS) tool is used as a practical example to demonstrate how city planners can find answers as they seek to improve public transport accessibility. Uniquely among the new generation of accessibility tools, SNAMUTS has been designed for multi-city comparisons. A range of indicators are employed in each city including: the effectiveness of the public transport network; the relationship between the transport network and land use activity; who gets access within the city; and how resilient the city will be. The cities selected enable a comparison between cities by old world–new world; public transport modes; governance approach; urban development constraints. The book is arranged along six themes that address the different planning challenges cities confront. Richly illustrated with maps and diagrams, this volume acts as a comprehensive sourcebook of accessibility indicators and a snapshot of current policy making around the world in the realm of strategic planning for land use transport integration and the growth of public transport. It provides a deeper understanding of the complexity, opportunities and challenges of twenty-first-century accessibility planning.

Towards User Centric Transport In Europe 3 written by Imre Keseru and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-03-30 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book gathers contributions to the EU-funded Horizon 2020 project INDIMO (Inclusive Digital Mobility Solutions), its sister projects DIGNITY (Digital Transport in and for Society) and TRIPS (Transport Innovation for Persons with Disabilities Needs Satisfaction), which have been focusing on making transport systems inclusive and accessible for all. Digitalization has enabled the emergence and proliferation of novel, ‘disruptive’ transport and delivery services. These services are often exclusively only available through digital channels such as a smartphone app or website. Yet a substantial segment of the population is at risk of being excluded from these services for a variety of reasons. Therefore, it is strongly necessary to integrate inclusivity and accessibility into the design and operation of mobility services. This book aims at discussing cases of and reasons for digital exclusion in transport. It also investigates the role of participatory and user-centric planning and design methods in making digital mobility more inclusive and accessible. Further, it discusses tools and technologies that could help policy makers to develop digital mobility as a more inclusive and accessible service. This is an open access book.
