Mamma Andersson Jockum Nordstrom Who Is Sleeping On My Pillow written by and has been published by David Zwirner Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-11-30 with Art categories.

Originally published on the occasion of the 2010 exhibition at David Zwirner in New York, Who is sleeping on my pillow marked the first time Andersson and Nordstrom presented their work in concurrent solo shows. The book showcases their work from the late 1980s to 2010 in over two hundred full-color plates, as well as numerous reproductions of family snapshots and source material. The Swedish artist couple Mamma Andersson and Jockum Nordstrom have been at the forefront of contemporary figurative art since the late 1980s. Updating Vuillard for a post-Hitchcock age, Andersson paints beguilingly eerie interiors and landscapes. Nordstrom’s detailed collages, watercolors, and drawings occupy a more folkloric realm peopled by historical and contemporary characters enacting sexual and social roles across broad narrative panoramas. Included in Who is sleeping on my pillow are texts by Paolo Colombo and Anders Kruger, a poem by Stig Claesson, and an interview with Nordstrom by Marcel Dzama. As Colombo notes in his accompanying essay, “The miracle is that Jockum and Mamma spent more than half of their life together, and that over the years their complicity has guided them into the artists they are, each the complement and the best sounding board for the other.” The publication was reissued to coincide with Nordstrom’s 2014 exhibition, For the insects and the hounds, at David Zwirner in London, and Andersson’s 2015 presentation, Behind the Curtain, at the gallery in New York.

This collection of Mamma Andersson’s latest paintings spotlights the beauty and mystery of nature and the erasure of time "What Mamma Andersson does in some of these pictures is on the one hand depict the illusions, the one thing which is another thing—masks, theater, statues, paintings—and on the other portray that which is only itself, potted plants, tree trunks, trees, landscapes. Everything is motionless, these rooms are located out of time." —Karl Ove Knausgaard, Mamma Andersson: A Storm Warning In a series of oneiric paintings inspired by interiors and the landscape of her childhood, the Swedish painter Mamma Andersson muses on the line between reality and illusion. She introduces thoughtful warm hues into an otherwise cool, muted color palette, lending an otherworldly feeling to the everyday scenes and subject matter that populate this new body of work, painted between 2020 and 2021. A companion to Sleepless and The Lost Paradise, this publication features a commissioned essay by Karl Ove Knausgaard, a meditation on wistful childhood memories of carefree exploration and the portal art creates between the world we live in and the worlds Andersson conjures with her brush.

In August 2016 under the title Svanesang (Swan Song), Gallery Magnus Karlsson, Stockholm and Galleri Bo Bjerggaard, Copenhagen presented a joint exhibition featuring two of the leading painters in the Nordic countries, Mamma Andersson and Tal R.The exhibition's two parts consisted of new paintings and gouaches that were shown simultaneously in the two galleries in Copenhagen and Stockholm, respectively. With Svanesang, Mamma Andersson and Tal R entered their first real artistic collaboration. The exhibition came into being after a yearlong visual dialogue between the two, in which they had exchanged motives and sent photographic material to each other. In the exhibition, it eventually became apparent how the motives recurred in both artist's works and how the inspiration had waved back and forth between the two in an enriching interaction.Inspiration was never put on a pedestal, as the two artists had allowed themselves to manipulate the other's image universe, focus again and thus take ownership of the material themselves. The works stand as unique, artistic statements from Mamma Andersson and Tal R, but as this publication also illustrates, they simultaneously testify to a form of conversation or Chinese whispers.Published on the occasion of the exhibition, Svanesang / Swan Song at Gallery Magnus Karlsson, Stockholm (30 August - 23 October 2016), and at Galleri Bo Bjerggaard, Copenhagen (24 August - 22 October 2016).

A celebration of the representation, figuration, and classical antiquity in Mamma Andersson’s newest paintings. "When I look at this collection of pictures, . . . what strikes me first is the image-making capacity itself and the endless stream of images it brings forth and always has brought forth into the world.” —Karl Ove Knausgaard, Mamma Andersson: Sleepless The Swedish painter Mamma Andersson draws inspiration from a wide range of photographic source materials, art history, filmic imagery, theater sets, and period interiors, as well as the sparse topography of northern Sweden. The paintings and works on paper collected in this volume explore atmosphere and mood through representations of masks, statues, and figurines, which take on a dreamlike, mythical quality in stark silhouettes. While recalling classical genres of still life, landscape, and interiors, this body of work, painted in 2021 and 2022, blends our sense of the past, present, and future. A companion to the artist’s previous books A Storm Warning and The Lost Paradise, this limited-run publication features a new essay by Karl Ove Knausgaard. The text considers the history and evolution of the human desire to depict our surroundings, placing Andersson’s doubled renderings—“pictures of pictures”—within a tradition of painting not from life but from representations of life.

In addition to personal life experiences, the Swedish artist Mamma Andersson draws on a number of other sources for her paintings, including northern landscape painting of the 19th and 20th century, interiors from forensic investigations and scenes from theatre brochures. The shift from meticulous attention to detail to gestural and abstract work lends the paintings an uncannily suggestive power. Thus, the portrayal of an everyday walk becomes a family drama, a children's room is revealed as a place of loneliness and destruction. The artist is concerned at all times with life in its entirety: a reflection of the contemporary human condition.Published on the occasion of the exhibition Mamma Andersson: Dog Days at Kunstmuseen Krefeld, Museum Haus Esters, 23 October - 5 February 2011.English and German text.

Painters often draw from existing visual materials, such as photographs and reproductions of past works of art, to construct their work. Mamma Andersson is no exception but takes the process a step or two further, importing images of stacks of books and stray photographs, clipped from various sources, into her compositions. Her psychologically-charged paintings have an eerie sense of familiarity, as collaged dreamscapes cluttered with common imagery and accumulated biblio-ephemera.

Works from the past two decades and a new series from the Swedish master of the oneiric and the unsettling Mamma Andersson (born 1962) ranks as one of the most important painters of her generation. The Swedish artist is an eminent interpreter of the unique language of painting. With a sharp sense of mood, color and materiality, she has developed a personal take on the classical genres of painting: still lifes, interiors and landscapes are at the crux of her work. Her signature aesthetic is the result of repeated applications and overpainting. Oil on canvas is covered in spray paint, paint is dragged in thin bands across the surface, producing a material fullness and variety. This catalog accompanies the Louisiana's exhibition Mamma Andersson: Humdrum Days, and contains contributions from the author Karl Ove Knausgård, the playwright Magnus Florin and the art writer and poet Barry Schwabsky, in addition to a conversation between Mamma Andersson and the exhibition's curator, Marie Laurberg.

Mamma Andersson The Lost Paradise written by Mamma Andersson and has been published by David Zwirner Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-09-07 with Art categories.

This volume celebrates the Swedish artist Mamma Andersson’s new body of work—melancholic, evocatively colored paintings that explore femininity, fantasy, and memory. Andersson’s works embody a new genre of landscape painting that recalls late nineteenth-century romanticism while also embracing a contemporary interest in layered, psychological compositions. Her panoramic scenes draw inspiration from a wide range of archival photographic source materials, filmic imagery, theater sets, and period interiors as well as the sparse topography of northern Sweden, where she grew up. The paintings utilize a selection of motifs from throughout her career: barren branches and thick-barked pine trees, domestic interiors, horses, and young women. Resembling still lifes, they further a tradition of quiet, dreamlike domestic scenes by Scandinavian artists such as Vilhelm Hammershøi (1864–1916) and Edvard Munch (1863–1944). Part of a self-conscious effort to capture an experience rather than a specific event, the compositions are freer and more abstract and mark a departure from her earlier work. Splendid color reproductions bring the artist’s textured brushstrokes, loose washes, and stark graphic lines to life on the page. The book also features a new essay by critically acclaimed author Karl Ove Knausgaard. The Lost Paradise is published on the occasion of an eponymous exhibition presented at David Zwirner New York in 2020.
