'Management and Labour in Europe is virtually without peer in that it brings much of the latest literature in industrial relations and management studies to bear on the subject of how institutions at the micro level shape the political economy. I view it as essential reading for scholars of comparative political economy and European politics.' - Peter A. Hall, Harvard University, US 'Everywhere in the book, one gets the feeling of an authoritative grasp of facts, figures and meanings, but everything is placed in the proper context and has been weighted in relation to competing or complementary findings. . . . despite the complexity and richness of findings taken on board, I found that the text is easy and compelling to read.' - Arndt Sorge, Organization Studies

Economic Management And French Business written by M. Maclean and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-10-02 with Political Science categories.

How is it that the modest pace of change which typified the French economy a century ago gave way after 1945 to a new, revived capitalism and a superior economic performance? Maclean traces the development of French economic and business life in the context of the European and international economy over the past fifty years. She examines the main economic trends and events: from nationalization to privatization; from war with Germany to reconciliation and ever-greater union; from the franc to the euro; and from national champions to mega-mergers with foreign companies. Maclean argues that the new French capitalism of the twenty-first century is the product of an ideological struggle in which the forces of modernization triumphed over the old guard of French nationalism.

Barsoux and Lawrence, who have studied French business practices at close quarters for many years, give a scholarly account of a range of issues which lie at the heart of French corporate life. They consider the educational background of French managers and examine both the dynamics of selection and advancement and the nature of elite composition and interaction. They investigate interpersonal relations and rituals within management settings. The link between management practice and social values in explored, and connections are traced between education, elitism, authority and career.

Master's Thesis from the year 2002 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1 (A), University of Brighton (Management), language: English, abstract: Introduction The member countries of the European Union are becoming more and more integrated, but, as the above extract shows, cultural differences among the individual states still remain and can pose problems. Effective cross-cultural management and communication between the countries is essential in order to work efficiently together and build a strong union. We encounter cross-cultural issues in all areas of our life, but in this dissertation I will concentrate on cross-cultural communication and management in a business context. Today, numerous businesses operate on an international or European level, mergers between companies from different countries have become very common and for these businesses to work efficiently management and employees have to be aware of cultural differences and understand how to use them to their advantage, instead of seeing them as an obstacle. Having worked in an international environment for several years, I have become aware of differences between nationalities and interested in exploring where these differences come from and how to accept and deal effectively with them. Over the summer of 2001 I was working as a coach for several European teams within American Express Customer Relations and encountered difficulties with some of my trainees, which, as I realised later, were triggered by cultural differences. In this paper I will attempt to give a brief overview of the work of three major theorists, who have researched cross-cultural management and communication. In the second chapter I will outline the consequences cultural differences can have on the workings and organisation of business. Due to the parameters of this project I have chosen only three areas to look at - communication, leadership and meetings. The next chapter will include details about a survey I conducted at American Express Customer Relations, the results of which I will critically evaluate and compare to the theories mentioned in Chapter 1.
