Innovation is an essential growth lever for organizations. Like any strategic element, it must be managed to ensure the right decision is made at the right time. When we talk about management, we naturally also consider management control. However, using management tools can be a danger to developing creativity – an essential element of innovation. This book examines the interdependencies between management control and creativity. By comparing two organizational contexts, we highlight the vital role of organizations as generators of creativity. We also underline the acceptance of an imbalance between the elements in tension, which can lead to the questioning and fostering of innovation; and the role of senior management as mediators between organizations and local actors.

Managing Creative People written by Gordon Torr and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-01-19 with Business & Economics categories.

A clash between the ideology of growth and the growth of ideas, between control and creativity, between measurement and the immeasurable, between predictability and the fickle muses of inspiration in engulfing our boardrooms. In this scathing swipe at the institutionalised idiocy that is stifling creativity just at the time the world needs it most Gordon Torr draws from the leading lights of creativity research to demolish the myths that surround the generation of ideas in the modern organisation. The curse of the brainstorm, the commoditisation of creative talent, the deskilling of the imagination, the startling inadequacies of management theory – these and the many other horrors of idea-assassination that run rampant in creative sector companies are dissected and disembowelled in this hilarious expose of the drama that unfolds every time a new idea slides across the boardroom table. This book sets out to address the black hole that surrounds the management of creative people, debunking many myths of creativity, and outlining a revolutionary approach to the pressing issue of creative productivity in the contemporary creative sector company. A handbook of tools, techniques, methods and practical ideas whose USP is a framework for thinking about efficient creative management – how to extract value from creative time. Gordon Torr presents a logical argument that puts in place the building blocks of the author’s knowledge and experience towards the final architecture. “We need them as never before. And we know that they’re somehow different. Yet the productive management of creative people is an almost totally neglected science. I doubt if there’s a single industry that wouldn’t gain immediate advantage from Gordon Torr’s scrupulous and enlightening detective work.” - Jeremy Bullmore

Metaphorical Management written by Klaus Elle and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-12-17 with Science categories.

In times of general instability change management is a great challenge. Our fossil mental patterns are not sufficient any more to be able to navigate sensibly the global scenario of complexity. Metaphorical thinking is a method which releases creative impulses into every change process and is of practical use, activating collective knowledge as a new network resource at the same time. This book reflects modern economy, ecology, sustainability and perception from an artistic perspective. However, it is not so much about "art", but rather how the modern artist takes on a serving role in the social arena again. He makes his creative knowledge available to connect processes of large-scale social development, he extends the boundaries of our scientifically limited world view and creates inspired playgrounds where the sensory-visionary can freely interact with the technically-necessary. This is no new aesthetic theory but rather a practical application of the creative process in operation at the crossroads of social interaction. Metaphorical thinking is emotionalized thinking and the observer is not separated from reality, but the centre, the starting point, of every change and new development. This volume offers creative ways to find solutions for a wide range of complex problems. It is a practical instrument for modern leadership and can be used to teach complexity in new ways. This work will help to create a global dialogue for sustainable change. Thsi book is also available in German: ISBN 978-90-481-9678-4

Creative Control written by Michael L. Siciliano and has been published by Columbia University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-03-02 with Social Science categories.

Workers in cultural industries often say that the best part of their job is the opportunity for creativity. At the same time, profit-minded managers at both traditional firms and digital platforms exhort workers to “be creative.” Even as cultural fields hold out the prospect of meaningful employment, they are marked by heightened economic precarity. What does it mean to be creative under contemporary capitalism? And how does the ideology of creativity explain workers’ commitment to precarious jobs? Michael L. Siciliano draws on nearly two years of ethnographic research as a participant-observer in a Los Angeles music studio and a multichannel YouTube network to explore the contradictions of creative work. He details how such workplaces feature engaging, dynamic processes that enlist workers in organizational projects and secure their affective investment in ideas of creativity and innovation. Siciliano argues that performing creative labor entails a profound ambivalence: workers experience excitement and aesthetic engagement alongside precarity and alienation. Through close comparative analysis, he presents a theory of creative labor that accounts for the roles of embodiment, power, alienation, and technology in the contemporary workplace. Combining vivid ethnographic detail and keen sociological insight, Creative Control explains why “cool” jobs help us understand how workers can participate in their own exploitation.
