Storytelling In Management Practice written by Stefanie Reissner and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-06-03 with Business & Economics categories.

Since the early 2000s, storytelling as a means of managerial communication has been increasingly advocated, with a focus on the management practices of leadership, change and organizational culture. Most research on storytelling in management practice derives from practitioner experience, but little is known about the specific dynamics behind storytelling as a tool for managerial communication. This book derives from one of the first research studies into storytelling in management practice, which sought to evaluate the assumed, but not necessarily proven, effectiveness of storytelling as a management tool. Building on existing theories of narrative and storytelling in organizations, the book explores how managers use storytelling in their daily practice, revealing that it can be employed both, purposively - like a tool, and perceptively - spontaneously and intuitively. The book explains that storytelling has different functions in management practice at different levels of the organization, such as: Creating direction for the organization Translating strategic messages into operational ones and supporting the professional development of staff Shaping the organization’s social fabric through the sharing of personal stories Aided by a wealth of interviews and case studies, Storytelling in Management Practice reveals an analysis of the dynamic relationship between story, storyteller, audience and organizational context. As such, it will be useful for students and researchers working across a variety of sub-disciplines, including: leadership, organizational behaviour and business communication.

This is not another how-to guide for program managers or another reiteration of the Project Management Institute’s standards for program management. Instead, Program Management Leadership: Creating Successful Team Dynamics examines various leadership approaches and illustrates the value of effective leadership styles in Program Management for achieving program and project success. Identifying critical success factors specific to program management, the book focuses on effective leadership styles and the power of teamwork in exceeding expectations. It starts by examining various leadership styles and traits—providing helpful insights on the tough choices leaders are often forced to make. It describes effective methods to help leaders work with stakeholders and team members to set visions and objectives so that program goals are achieved with greater frequency. Next, the book further examines teams and explains how to bring people from various experience levels, geographic diversity, and cultural backgrounds together setting aside their own personal objectives and instead working towards a common goal and vision. Presenting recent research on leadership, it highlights the situational factors that leaders face and offers approaches enabling leaders to modify their style from one based on personal choice to one that can adapt to overcome the challenges that will arise. From there, the book describes how to build and maintain a High Performing Team (HPT). It also describes how to instill a competitive spirit and culture of cooperation and mutual respect in your team to make sure your team remains focused on the right things. This book is an ideal resource for anyone who understands the value of the tools provided by PMI® and is searching for the factors that separate good program and project managers from truly great ones. If you are focused on self-actualization and continuous improvement, then this is the book that can help drive your program initiatives to the highest possible standards.

Dynamic Performance Management written by Carmine Bianchi and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-05-02 with Business & Economics categories.

This book explores how to design and implement planning & control (P&C) systems that can help organizations to manage their growth and restructuring processes in a sustainability perspective. The book is not designed to enable the reader to become an experienced system dynamics modeler; rather, it aims to develop the reader’s capabilities to design and implement performance management systems by using a system dynamics approach. More specifically, the book shows how to develop system dynamics models that can better support an understanding of: -What is organizational performance and how to frame and measure it; -How to identify and map the processes underlying performance; -How to design and implement a dynamic performance management system and link it to strategic planning; -How to tie strategic resource dynamics to processes and performance indicators; -How to link strategic resources, and performance indicators to responsibility and incentive systems. Using a dynamic performance management approach can improve an organization’s capability to understand and manage the forces driving performance over time, as well as set goals and objectives that may properly and selectively gauge results and match them to the key responsibility areas in the planning process. The dynamic performance management approaches covered in the book are beneficial to performance management analysts, enabling them to frame their professional field within the broader context of the system. The book also includes numerous case studies and dynamic performance management models for providing examples of how dynamic performance management works in practice. In addition, a literature review is included to provide a guideline for further improvements to those readers who wish to develop relevant, specific, and detailed system dynamics modeling skills and to establish the foundation for teaching system dynamics applied to performance management in organizational and inter-organizational contexts. This is particularly relevant for graduate students who have taken system dynamics courses and need to apply their own skills to business and public management.
