The Dilemmas Of Wonderland written by Yakov Ben-Haim and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-09-03 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Innovations create both opportunities and dilemmas. They provide new and supposedly better opportunities, but — because of their newness — they are often more uncertain and potentially worse than existing options. Recent inventions and discoveries include new drugs, new energy sources, new foods, new manufacturing technologies, new toys and new pedagogical methods, new weapon systems, new home appliances and many other discoveries and inventions. Is it better to use or not to use a new and promising but unfamiliar and hence uncertain innovation? That dilemma faces just about everybody. The paradigm of the innovation dilemma characterizes many situations, even when a new technology is not actually involved. The dilemma arises from new attitudes, like individual responsibility for the global environment, or new social conceptions, like global allegiance and self-identity transcending nation-states. These dilemmas have far-reaching implications for individuals, organizations, and society at large as they make decisions in the age of innovation. The uncritical belief in outcome-optimization — "more is better, so most is best" — pervades decision-making in all domains, but is often irresponsible when facing the uncertainties of innovation. There is a great need for practical conceptual tools for understanding and managing the dilemmas of innovation. This book offers a new direction for a wide audience. It discusses examples from many fields, including e-reading, bipolar disorder and pregnancy, disruptive technology in industry, stock markets, agricultural productivity and world hunger, military hardware, military intelligence, biological conservation, on-line learning, and more.

The text also differs from others in the area because it is less theoretical, it provides a broader perspective for management problem solving, and it bridges economics with other business disciplines. Each chapter includes a management decision-oriented case study that applies tools of economic analysis. An online instructors manual is available to professors who adopt the text.

Current Topics in Management presents basic research on the theory and practice of management and administration. Volume 12 contains eleven contributions divided into four sections. The editor explains the volume in Chapter 1, while the other chapters were the survivors of competitive reviews of 124 submissions to the thirteenth annual International Conference on Advances in Management held at Lisbon, Portugal.Part 1, "Managing Evolution and Transformation" contains three chapters that deal with organizational transformation through reengineering for improving business processes, an organizing framework for the emergence of new organizational forms, and concepts and forms of "do-it-yourself" in organizations which involve creative use of resources to deal with a problem. Part 2, "Managing Inappropriateness" deals with some unusual situations: managing global imbalances that require cooperation and commitment from all countries and one of the most important contemporary phenomena--misrepresentation or radical distortion of reality. Part 3, "Issues in Strategic Management" focuses on the relationships of board of directors' attributes, conflict, and shared mental models to board effectiveness, controlling CEO compensation through an independent board of directors, and ecologically responsive behavior of corporate actors. The final part, "Entrepreneurship and Behavior in Organizations" concentrates with an opportunity-based approach to the theory and research in entrepreneurial discovery research; a study of the moderating effects of goal commitment, task feedback, and reward for competence on the relationship between work overload and creativity; and guidelines to managers for the diagnosis of the spiritual health and intervention to enhance spirituality at work. This volume will be of interest to corporate libraries, advanced students in management and administration, economists, and labor studies specialists. It is the official publication of the Center for Advanced Studies in Management

Rethinking Management written by Neil Douglas and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-01-23 with Business & Economics categories.

This book challenges the roots and elements of the existing dominant paradigm of management, which can legitimize artless practices and result in dysfunction, and proposes an alternative based on a different understanding of human nature and social and economic life. This paradigm is designed to bring about the conception of organizations as wholes rather than assemblies of disembodied fragments, with managers as facilitators of the work of others and shapers of culture, with a clear sense of purpose and a moral compass. Such a paradigm would result in a practice of management that is more competent, more purposeful, and more ethical, based on a more accurate and complete comprehension of reality. This book sets forth a more optimistic understanding of human nature and collective life, and the hope that we can be and do better. It is a major contribution to the field of management and will benefit academics, managers, and consultants working in the fields of organizational development and strategic change.

The Metaknowledge Advantage written by Rafael Aguayo and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-05-11 with Business & Economics categories.

In the tradition of the bestselling Intellectual Capital, internationally recognized management and quality expert Rafael Aguayo shows how integrated mastery of many areas of knowledge -- MetaKnowledge -- can give corporate managers an edge, no matter what the future has in store. In today's world, the basis of economic power and wealth is rapidly shifting from physical resources to intellectual resources. Former powerhouses like U.S. Steel are now minor players, while modern giants such as Microsoft dominate industries that didn't even exist twenty-five years ago. The economy undergoes wild fluctuations. The Internet boom has come and gone. Through globalization, international boundaries are becoming less important every day. In such a dramatically changing environment, the management philosophy that endures must be based on principles that transcend daily occurrences and swings in the market. That's where MetaKnowledge comes in. Rafael Aguayo brings years of firsthand consulting experience to this book and galvanizes it with an impressive yet accessible body of academic study. A disciple of W. Edwards Deming, Aguayo studied with the man who brought quality to the Japanese. He has since expanded his field of expertise to encompass many subjects that contribute to successful business strategies, no matter what the industry. In The MetaKnowledge Advantage, Aguayo gives American managers an advantage by helping them break out of their narrow fields of expertise, synthesizing areas of knowledge as diverse as ecology, psychology, statistics, chaos theory, self-actualization, and the theory of multiple intelligences. Drawing on the work of Walter Shewhart (the father of Statistical Quality Control), W. Edwards Deming, Carl Jung, James Lovelock, Bertrand Russell, and many other luminaries, The MetaKnowledge Advantage offers a comprehensive -- and extremely flexible -- strategy for good management and ethical behavior in any industry.
