This text is an accessible and comprehensive guide to the principles, practices, functions and challenges of maintenance engineering and management. With a strong emphasis on basic concepts and practical techniques throughout, the book demonstrates in detail how effective technical competencies in maintenance management can be built in engineering organizations. The book thus provides students and practising engineers alike with the methodologies and tools needed to understand and implement the systems approach to maintenance management. The major goals for the text include : To provide a good understanding of different types of maintenance management systems such as breakdown, preventive, predictive, proactive. To explain benefits of planned maintenance. To explain condition-based monitoring techniques with focus on vibration monitoring, thermography, and motor condition monitoring. To stress the role of reliability engineering in maintenance with tools like Failure Mode and Effect Analysis, Root Cause Analysis, and Criticality Matrix. To explain activities of maintenance planning with focus on shutdown planning, human resources development, and tools employed for monitoring. To emphasize management functions such as procurement of spares, measurement of maintenance effectiveness, etc. To give an overview of project management tools such as PERT etc. To introduce computerized maintenance management systems. To explain the basics of hazard analysis and fault tree analysis. Review questions in each chapter, worked-out examples wherever applicable, case studies and an exclusive appendix on “Selected Questions and Answers” are all designed to provoke critical thinking. Comprehensive Management Of The Upper Limb Amputee written by Diane J. Atkins and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Psychology categories.

Each year in the United States, an estimated 40,000 persons lose a limb. Of these amputees, approximately 30% lose a hand or an arm. This loss is most frequently related to trauma occurring in the healthy young adult male and is often work related. Approximately 3% of all amputees are born with congenital limb absence. In children, the ratio of congenital to acquired amputation is 2: 1, and the ratio of upper-limb to lower-limb amputees is 1. 2: 1. Therefore, since relatively few amputations result in upper-limb loss, only a small number of health practitioners, even those specializing in amputee rehabilitation, have the opportunity to provide services for a significant number of arm amputees. As a result, clinicians need to share their experiences so that the full range of options for optimum care and rehabilitation of the patient population may be considered. To meet this challenge for wider communication of clinical experience, a group of upper-limb amputee specialists met in Houston, Texas, in 1981 to serve as the core faculty for a course entitled "Contemporary Issues in Upper Extremity Amputation and Prosthetic Function. " This program provided the opportunity for surgeons, physiatrists, engineers, prosthetists, social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists from the United States and Canada to discuss their extensive experience in working with upper extremity amputees. A second conference continuing the discussion of upper limb amputee rehabilitation was held one year later.

In this book, the authors focus on three aspects related to the development of articulated agents: presenting an overview of high-level control algorithms for intelligent decision-making of articulated agents, experimental study of the properties of soft agents as the end-effector of articulated agents, and accurate management of low-level torque-control loop to accurately control the articulated agents. This book summarizes recent advances related to articulated agents. The motive behind the book is to trigger theoretical and practical research studies related to articulated agents.
