"She escaped the almost certain death of a concentration camp, so breaking out of a nursing home is small potatoes. She beat it out of a Polish ghetto by refusing to take orders, so she won't likely take that medication. Just how is one Jewish family in Miami Beach going to make sure their matriarch, Bubbie, gets something she would never have dreamed of needing ... help surviving? Managing Bubbie is the family memoir by grandson Russel Lazega that recounts the vexing days in the 1980's when his family banded together to attempt the insurmountable. Full of wit, warmth, and awe-inspiring will, Managing Bubbie offers a rarely seen glimpse at the deep reserves of compassion, courage, and even comic relief that emerged during the darkest days of the Holocaust. Anyone seeking a new perspective on this defining time, or who share the challenges of managing a difficult family member's health, will find so much in this poignant book."--

Winner of the 2020 Midwest Book Award in Autobiography/Memoir, The Color of Love is an unforgettable memoir about a mixed-race Jewish woman who, after fifteen years of estrangement from her racist great-aunt, helps bring her home when Alzheimer’s strikes. In 1970, three-day-old Marra B. Gad was adopted by a white Jewish family in Chicago. For her parents, it was love at first sight—but they quickly realized the world wasn’t ready for a family like theirs. Marra’s biological mother was unwed, white, and Jewish, and her biological father was black. While still a child, Marra came to realize that she was “a mixed-race, Jewish unicorn.” In black spaces, she was not “black enough” or told that it was OK to be Christian or Muslim, but not Jewish. In Jewish spaces, she was mistaken for the help, asked to leave, or worse. Even in her own extended family, racism bubbled to the surface. Marra’s family cut out those relatives who could not tolerate the color of her skin—including her once beloved, glamorous, worldly Great-Aunt Nette. After they had been estranged for fifteen years, Marra discovers that Nette has Alzheimer’s, and that only she is in a position to get Nette back to the only family she has left. Instead of revenge, Marra chooses love, and watches as the disease erases her aunt’s racism, making space for a relationship that was never possible before. The Color of Love explores the idea of yerusha, which means "inheritance" in Yiddish. At turns heart-wrenching and heartwarming, this is a story about what you inherit from your family—identity, disease, melanin, hate, and most powerful of all, love. With honesty, insight, and warmth, Marra B. Gad has written an inspirational, moving chronicle proving that when all else is stripped away, love is where we return, and love is always our greatest inheritance.

DREAM HOUSE A Novel of Suspense Rochelle Krich National bestselling author of Blues in the Night Friday, October 31. 9:37 P.M., 100 block of South Martel. A vandal threw a pumpkin through the front window of a house and several eggs at the front door. The police report read like just another Halloween prank–a nasty, petty act. But the attack is one in a recent spate of increasingly violent vandalisms targeting residents who have paid millions of dollars for their dream homes in the ritziest enclaves of Los Angeles. Residents are already seething, hotly divided about the growing number of Historical Architectural Restoration and Preservation (HARP) boards that prevent homeowners from remodeling their expensive real estate, forcing them to preserve the traditional integrity of neighborhoods where Hollywood legends once lived. So impassioned are pro-and anti-HARP forces that Crime Sheet columnist Molly Blume suspects that members from both side of the debate may perpetrating the vandalism that claims new victims almost daily. But the arson that destroys an empty house on Fuller Street doesn’t fit the pattern. This beautiful property belongs to Margaret Reston and her husband, Hank; and the sick old man who dies when it burns is Margaret’s father. Margaret herself has disappeared. She was last seen working in her garden five months ago–and although traces of her blood were found in her car, the police have no idea what has happened to the missing woman. This intrigue all makes good copy for hard-hitting newshound Molly. Almost in love again with the high-school sweetheart who dumped her and is now a rabbi, Molly can’t stop thinking about Margaret and Hank Reston and the old man whose life was tragically, though accidentally, cut short. But was it an accident? What has happened to Margaret Reston? Where does malice end and evil begin? In her second Molly Blume chiller, award-winning novelist Rochelle Krich takes us right inside L.A.’s most exclusive neighborhoods and into the elegant old houses whose wrought-iron fences and barred windows offer scant protection from violence. Even in a dream house, life can turn nightmarish in a heartbeat. Rochelle Krich is the author of many acclaimed novels of suspense, including Blues in the Night (which introduced Molly Blume), Shadows of Sin, Dead Air, Blood Money, and Fertile Ground. An Anthony Award winner for her debut novel, Where’s Mommy Now? (which was adapted as the TV movie Perfect Alibi), Ms. Krich now lives in Los Angeles with her husband and their children. "As [Disconnect] shows, cell phones may actually be doing damage to far more than our attention spans-and could, in fact, be killing us." -Salon.com. Since the invention of radar, cell phone radiation was assumed to be harmless because it wasn't like X-rays. But a sea change is now occurring in the way scientists think about it. The latest research ties this kind of radiation to lowered sperm counts, an increased risk of Alzheimer's, and even cancer. In Disconnect, National Book Award finalist Devra Davis tells the story of the dangers that the cell phone industry is knowingly exposing us-and our children-to in the pursuit of profit. More than five billion cell phones are currently in use, and that number increases every day. Synthesizing the findings and cautionary advice of leading experts in bioelectricalmagnetics and neuroscience, Davis explains simple safety measures that no one can afford to ignore.

Inhaltsangabe:Introduction: Most literature on marketing contains an exhaustive discussion on the topic of relationship marketing and this concept is now well understood by every marketer. However, valuing customer relationships is usually viewed more vaguely as being a general, desirable and virtuous factor. Like many fields in marketing, there has been a failure to justify adopting such an approach based also on its inherent financial control measures. In this increasingly globalised marketplace (the hospitality sector), it can strike as odd that scholars and researchers have overlooked the differences in CRM handling that exist among different cultures. The aim of this dissertation is to make a contribution to closing the gap between marketing and management perspectives in terms of customer profitability, especially in the luxury hotel sector with regard to their international customer/guest base. The gap is to identify by the management and accounting which customers are profitable and to translate these insights into marketing activities. Companies can control their customer relationships and make sophisticated decisions about which customer relationships should be finished and which are worth retaining, a practice known as Customer Equity. The objectives of this work include: - Identify how investment in customer retention create a Return on Investment. - Allocating marketing spending ratios for long-term profitability. - Identify the methods that managers can use to create customer loyalty. - Explain the links between customer loyalty, customer equity and relationship marketing. - Estimate the role of quality factors within service delivery and after-sales service as above and how they affect customer retention. - Identify the effect of after-sales service as above quality on customers expectations and its impact on customer satisfaction. CRM outline is seen by some as an extended database containing useful information about customers that could be used to help extend sales, while others see it as a tool specifically designed for use on a (one-to-one) basis with each of their customers (Peppers and Rogers, 1999). To implement CRM successfully the TQM, HRM and IT management need to ensure organisational alignment (Reinartz et al., 2004). Building on this statement, Buttle (2004) spells out that: CRM needs to be established in three layers: companywide, factional and customer facing . Inhaltsverzeichnis:Table of Contents: i.able [...]
