This book is a completely updated translation of the German standard work "Preismanagement", a volume which was quoted in the International Journal of Research in Marketing as "a pioneering work in pricing" and was rated highest among eight international pricing books by a comparative survey in Die Betriebswirtschaft. An English language edition was thus more than warranted as underlined by some prepublication comments: "... The major contribution of the book is the fact that it introduces the English speaking reader to research on pricing from the German literature. It is for that reason alone that the book will appeal to many academicians in the USA and in other non-German speaking countries.............the book represents, in my opinion, the very best review of empirial work in the pricing area...............I also anticipate the book to be widely read by managers since pricing has become of the utmost concern to them. It provides them with a very useful conceptual framework and it also gives them useful advice on relevant topics such as pricing in inflationary times, the impact of taxation on pricing, and pricing under uncertainty." G. Assmus, The Amos Tuck School of Business Administration, Dartmouth College, Hanover, USA. "The book should become the text of choice at the best institutions." R. Schmalensee, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge Institute of Technology, USA. Price Management attempts to bridge the gap between the theory and the practice of pricing. Emphasis is placed upon the problems of applying theoretical structures and detailed recommendations are given about when and how certain techniques should - and should not - be used. Particular attention is given to pricing strategy over the product life cycle and under changing competitive conditions. Both academics and professionals will find this book of value. The book is a 'must' for any business, management and economics library.

Market Oriented Pricing written by Michael Morris and has been published by Praeger this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1990-04-24 with Business & Economics categories.

An important contribution to marketing literature, this volume offers a comprehensive guide to market-based pricing strategies. The authors present pricing as a relatively simple, but extremely powerful marketing tool--a creative variable which managers can manipulate to accomplish a wide variety of ends. Arguing that companies must move away from the traditional, short-term, reactive methods relied upon to set and manage prices, the authors call for a systematic, strategic and market-based approach to the pricing problem. Their central unifying theme is that pricing begins and ends with the customer and that every pricing action should be part of a larger pricing program build around the realities of customer needs and competitor pressures. Written with a minimum of jargon and amply illustrated with explanatory tables and figures, this is an excellent introduction to pricing for both seasoned and aspiring marketing and product managers. Morris and Morris begin by examining the overall concept of price as a statement of value. Subsequent chapters offer in-depth guidance on the development of market-based pricing, addressing such critical issues as pricing strategy over the product life cycle, linking pricing and marketing strategy, understanding and using elasticity, the psychology of pricing, and negotiating prices with customers. Particular attention is paid to the question of price differentials--charging different prices to different classes of consumers--and the legal and ethical ramifications of adopting strategies based on price differentials. The authors also explore cost-based pricing, industry and competitor analysis, pricing across the product line, and computers as an aid in pricing. Throughout, references to real-world cases and problems helps the manager to relate the concepts of market-based pricing to the pricing decisions and considerations actually confronted on the job.

There are confusions related to the area of asset management. At this moment, searching over the internet with the keyword “asset management”, most of the links show the issue about financial asset management such as asset investments, securities, stocks, and obligations. In a simple term, the word “asset management” refers to managing financial asset. However, the term asset does not only include financial asset. In ISO 55000 (2014), the term asset is defined as an item, thing or entity that has potential or actual value to an organization. The value of asset can be categories as financial or non-financial value, tangible or intangible value, and may vary between different organizations and their stakeholders. With this definition, the term asset is very broad and may consist any type of asset such as human resources, stock, building, inventory, trust, capital, goodwill, and land. This book demonstrates the application of Life-cycle Cost Approach (LCCA) in the management of infrastructure and other investment projects in the context of developing countries. The main goal is to identify potential opportunities for the adoption LCCA in developing countries, with the help of case studies and best practices. The editors observe that developing countries are plagued with poor and fluctuating service delivery which affords low or no priority for environmental protection. They seek to instill at the policy-making level an understanding of why life-cycle cost assessment is central to achieving the goals of sustainable development as well as sustainable service delivery and to influence the behavior of sector stakeholders. The editors examine the evolution of LCCA from a project appraisal tool to a more comprehensive method of incorporating sustainable development aspects in a variety of sectors. By providing a compendium of concepts, tools and practical experiences, it seeks to broaden the application of LCCA, which is often limited to specific phases of the life-cycle with little or no weight given to environmental aspects. The aim of the book is to mainstream LCCA into governance processes at institutional levels from local to national, in order to increase the ability and willingness of decision makers - both users and those involved in service planning, budgeting and delivery - to reach better informed and more relevant choices among different types and levels of products and services.

The aim of the book is to provide an overview of risk management in life insurance companies. The focus is twofold: (1) to provide a broad view of the different topics needed for risk management and (2) to provide the necessary tools and techniques to concretely apply them in practice. Much emphasis has been put into the presentation of the book so that it presents the theory in a simple but sound manner. The first chapters deal with valuation concepts which are defined and analysed, the emphasis is on understanding the risks in corresponding assets and liabilities such as bonds, shares and also insurance liabilities. In the following chapters risk appetite and key insurance processes and their risks are presented and analysed. This more general treatment is followed by chapters describing asset risks, insurance risks and operational risks - the application of models and reporting of the corresponding risks is central. Next, the risks of insurance companies and of special insurance products are looked at. The aim is to show the intrinsic risks in some particular products and the way they can be analysed. The book finishes with emerging risks and risk management from a regulatory point of view, the standard model of Solvency II and the Swiss Solvency Test are analysed and explained. The book has several mathematical appendices which deal with the basic mathematical tools, e.g. probability theory, stochastic processes, Markov chains and a stochastic life insurance model based on Markov chains. Moreover, the appendices look at the mathematical formulation of abstract valuation concepts such as replicating portfolios, state space deflators, arbitrage free pricing and the valuation of unit linked products with guarantees. The various concepts in the book are supported by tables and figures.

The financing of modern construction projects reflects the need to address the costs and benefits of the whole life of the project. This means that end of life economics can now have a far greater impact on the planning and feasibility phases. During the project itself, decisions on construction materials and processes all influence the schedule as well as both immediate and down-the-line costs. Massimo Pica and his co-authors explain in detail the fundamentals of project life cycle economics and how they apply in the context of complex modern construction. This is an essential guide for those involved in construction project design, tendering and contracting; to help ensure the sustainability of the project or their contribution to it, from the start. It is also important for those involved in the delivery of the project to help them make the choices to keep the project on a financial even keel. Government, corporations and other organizations are looking for new models of collaborative working to fund their large construction and infrastructure projects in the face of changing attitudes to risk; a better educated and more demanding base of end-user clients and the increasing requirements for projects that are environmentally responsible and sustainable. Project Life Cycle Economics is a fundamental primer for those commissioning and those delivering construction.
