Prevention and treatment of nausea and emesis are important issues in a patients wellbeing in the clinical setting as well as for the outpatient. Various and still partly unresolved pathomechanisms play a role in nausea and emesis in humans. It is therefore important to compare results from preclinical research in animal models with results from clinical studies. This book combines an overview of the preclinical research on antiemetic drugs and state-of-the art reviews on the prevention and treatment of nausea and emesis. Established treatment regimens are compared with new interesting compounds in clinical trials. An up-to-date overview of the selection of antiemetic drugs, of their dosage and route of administration is given for clinical conditions such as emetogenic anti-cancer chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, and hyperemesis gravidarum. The treatment of nausea and emesis in opioid therapy and in motion sickness is equally outlined. Whereas this book should serve the clinician in making the right choice for every patients need, it also pays significant attention to the interests of scientists in the fields of oncology, nutrition, gastroenterology, obstetrics and gynecology as well as anaesthesia.

Research is finally acknowledging that sex differences in pain perception are experimental opportunities rather than obstacles. For the International Association for the Study of Pain, 32 specialists in 18 contributions explore basic biopsychosocial considerations for sex, gender, and pain research; and sex-related differences in experimental pain responses, and in clinical conditions (e.g. headache disorders, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome). The concluding paper by K. Berkley (neuroscience, Florida State U., Tallahassee) proposes a developmental lifespan framework for the complex issue of whether there is characteristic female pain as vs. male pain. Fillingim is in the U. of Florida's College of Dentistry. For those keeping count of such matters, there is about a 40:60 percent ratio of female to male authors. Technological Competency As Caring In Nursing written by Rozzano C. Locsin and has been published by Nursing Knowledge International this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Medical categories.

Nurses use and encounter technology in nearly every aspect of their profession. What does it mean to be technologically competent and caring as a nurse? How does technology support nursing work? How does it hinder nursing work? How can nurses care for their patients as technological advancements are introduced nearly every day? Technological Competency as Caring in Nursing: A Model for Practice provides insight and answers into how nurses can and must be both technologically competent and caring as they provide meaningful and essential nursing care. Locsins work is obviously guided by the question asked by thoughtful nurses everywhere: How can I satisfactorily reconcile the idea of competent use of technology with the idea of caring in nursing? The chapters in this book significantly embellish a practical understanding of the solution offered by the Locsin model, and indeed, enrich the practical value of all of the general theories of nursing that are grounded in caring. Savina O. Schoenhofer, RN, PhD Professor, Department of Graduate Nursing Alcorn State University, Natchez, Mississippi, USA, Technological competency as caring in nursing is a critical process of knowing persons wholeness. Dr. Locsins book explores, clarifies, and advances the conception of technological competency as caring in nursing. His book is essential to modeling a practice of nursing from the perspective of caring in nursing and a practical illumination of excellent nursing in a technological world.
