Internet crime keeps getting worse...but it doesn’t have to be that way. In this book, Internet security pioneer Phillip Hallam-Baker shows how we can make the Internet far friendlier for honest people—and far less friendly to criminals. The dotCrime Manifesto begins with a revealing new look at the challenge of Internet crime—and a surprising look at today’s Internet criminals. You’ll discover why the Internet’s lack of accountability makes it so vulnerable, and how this can be fixed —technically, politically, and culturally. Hallam-Baker introduces tactical, short-term measures for countering phishing, botnets, spam, and other forms of Internet crime. Even more important, he presents a comprehensive plan for implementing accountability-driven security infrastructure: a plan that draws on tools that are already available, and rapidly emerging standards and products. The result: a safer Internet that doesn’t sacrifice what people value most: power, ubiquity, simplicity, flexibility, or privacy. Tactics and strategy: protecting Internet infrastructure from top to bottom Building more secure transport, messaging, identities, networks, platforms, and more Gaining safety without sacrificing the Internet’s unique power and value Making the Internet safer for honest people without sacrificing ubiquity, simplicity, or privacy Spam: draining the swamp, once and for all Why spam contributes to virtually every form of Internet crime—and what we can do about it Design for deployment: how to really make it happen Defining security objectives, architecture, strategy, and design—and evangelizing them

Transparency is a fundamental principle of justice. A cornerstone of the rule of law, it allows for public engagement and for democratic control of the decisions and actions of both the judiciary and the justice authorities. This book looks at the question of transparency within the framework of transitional justice. Bringing together scholars from across the disciplinary spectrum, the collection analyses the issue from socio-legal, cultural studies and practitioner perspectives. Taking a three-part approach, it firstly discusses basic principles guiding justice globally before exploring courts and how they make justice visible. Finally, the collection reviews the interface between law, transitional justice institutions and the public sphere.

Representations Of Lethal Gender Based Violence In Italy Between Journalism And Literature written by Nicoletta Mandolini and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-08-15 with Social Science categories.

This book discusses femicide in Italy, and the cultural conversations that have resulted from feminist discourse on lethal violence against women entering the mainstream, by analyzing journalistic inquiries and literary works produced after 2012. In a global and national context where activism’s goals are mainly discursive this study deepens our understanding of the role played by written narratives in the critique of a public interest matter such as gender-based violence. The first part of the book is dedicated to the analysis of three journalistic inquiries published in book format that focus on one or more cases of femicide that happened on the Italian peninsula. The second section draws on the concept of feminist rewriting to propose the analysis of a heterogeneous body of literary texts that explore some of the most controversial and notorious femicide cases covered by previous journalistic, historical, or mythical narratives, before demonstrating the close connection between theoretical and narrative discourse within the analyzed texts. This is a fascinating case study contributing to global understandings of gender-based violence, which will be important for researchers in gender studies, sociology, and media studies.

The Homicide Manifesto is a testament of Cpt. Jose 'Pepi' Granado's (Ret.) many years of service within the law enforcement community, especially his insights as an investigator and supervisor of various Homicide Units. It's meant to be used as a guide for new investigators, supervisors, students majoring in Criminal Justice, Law, or a University's curriculum. Additionally, this book is a source of information that can augment any in-service training provided by law enforcement agencies nationally or globally. Individual investigators who desire to investigate violent crimes, attorneys, or citizens can use this book to garner better perspectives of how investigations should be conducted. As a Criminal Investigations Division Captain, Cpt. Granado realized the lack of training investigators and supervisors receive. Therefore, this book is his way of providing knowledge to future generations of investigators, supervisors, and students in order for them to understand the importance of thoroughness and preparedness. Nicholas Greer is a writer who’s broke and on the verge of divorce. The life of Frank Spira, the controversial painter he’s been researching for six years, has become more real to him than his own. Nick has just finished writing his book when he gets a call telling him that one of Spira’s closest friends, Jacob Grossman, a man who went missing twenty-six years ago, has been spotted in Manhattan. Nick tracks Grossman down, hoping to find answers to the few niggling questions that remain. Instead he gets news of a work created by Spira, which the artist supposedly destroyed. If it existed, it would be worth millions. When Grossman is brutally murdered an hour after the interview, Nick finds himself drawn into a search for explanations. Only as he comes to understand the disturbing truth behind the lost painting, does he realize that he too is the object of someone’s scrutiny, a ruthless art collector for whom the missing work is Spira’s crowning achievement. Moving between London, New York, and Tangier, Spiral is a relentlessly suspenseful story of art and obsession.
