Buku ini adalah buku ketiga saya terkait kewirausahaan Minangkabau. Buku pertama berjudul “Menuju Kebangkitan Kewirausahaan di Sumatera Barat” terbit pada tahun 2011. Buku ini mengindikasikan fase awal dimana telah dipersiapkan segala sesuatu untuk kebangkitan kewirausahaan di Minangkabau. Judul yang memakai Sumatera Barat daripada Minangkabau menjadi penanda bahwa fase ini berlaku umum melintas batas suku bangsa. Kewirausahaan dilihat sebagai fenomena umum di seluruh Indonesia dan bahkan dunia dan itu tidak terkecuali di Sumatera Barat. Semua kita dapat dipastikan setuju bahwa kewirausahaan saat ini masih menjadi salah satu trending topics dimana-mana. Para pejabat politik, akademisi mahasiswa pengusaha dan masyarakat luas terutama kelas menengah membicarakan kewirausahaan dengan penuh antusias dan optimisme. “Generasi Baru Kewirausahaan Indonesia”, buku kedua saya, merupakan hasil perenungan saya selama paling tidak 4 tahun (2012 sampai dengan 2016). Setelah kewirausahaan muncul sebagai suatu gerakan, maka fenomena umum kampanye kewirausahaan tersebut kemudian mengerucut pada terbentuknya suatu generasi baru kewirausahaan Minangkabau. Mereka muda, bersemangat, dan di atas semuanya: independen. Independensi inilah yang terutama memberikan konsekuensi yang besar bagi kewirausahaan Minangkabau. Manakala kewirausahaan bertumpu pada kebebasan yang ditawarkan oleh generasi baru, maka akan muncul kegamangan: akankah mereka mewakili nilai-nilai ke-Minangkabau-an yang selama ini menjadi fondasi kolektif orang Minang? Atau pertanyaan yang seharusnya ditanyakan lebih awal: apakah nilai-nilai ke- Minangkabau-an itu masih berkesesuaian dengan konteks kekinian atau paling tidak dalam khasanah pemikiran pelaku kewirausahaan generasi baru kewirausahaan Minangkabau?
