Manipulation On Trial written by Jeffrey Williams and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995-07-27 with Business & Economics categories.

The unprecedented rise and fall in silver's price during 1979 and 1980 resulted in charges against the Hunt brothers of Dallas of monopolization and market manipulation, charges which led to a lengthy trial. This book focuses on the economic analysis used at this trial. Drawing upon interviews with the judge, jury, attorneys and expert witnesses (the author having so served), it investigates the elusive definition of manipulation in sophisticated markets, the difficulties of interpreting statistical evidence, the imprecision in calculating damages, the hidden assumptions behind inferences concerning intent, and the hazards introduced when economic analysis enters complex litigation. The author concludes that these problems induce courtroom procedures to oversimplify the economic analysis and cause the law on market manipulation to be created retroactively. Yet the failure lies not with the legal institutions but with the futures exchanges who had not developed in advance the rules to minimize large-scale trading during the unusual price moves.

The new edition of this popular book continues to present the latest scientific evidence for the successful use of the high velocity low amplitude (HVLA) thrust technique. Prepared in a readily accessible, amply illustrated format, this book is designed to equip practitioners with a detailed understanding of the underlying basis of the HVLA thrust technique and the best means to safely employ it in the effective management of a range of disorders of the spine and pelvic regions. The book is arranged in three sections to maximise understanding of what can be challenging areas to comprehend and effectively manage. Section One explores the biomechanics of movement and forces between adjacent vertebrae followed by a discussion of positioning and ‘locking’. These chapters are then followed by a discussion about safety with particular reference to the management of the cervical spine. A chapter on evidence – and what represents good medical evidence – concludes. Section Two presents – using an ample array of clear photographs and useful summary boxes – over 40 HVLA techniques ranging from the atlanto-occipital joint (C0-C1) to the coccyx. Section Three concludes with treatment failures (often, technique derived) and analysis. Prepared by authors of international renown - and now with an associated website containing over 45 minutes of useful film footage - this book will be ideal for all manual therapy practitioners dealing with the management of the spine and pelvic areas. Step-by-step coverage of 41 commonly used manipulation (HVLA) thrust techniques supported by 275 photographs/drawings and 56 videos Concise technique summaries provide an innovative review process A troubleshooting section in which difficulties with technique application can be addressed Comprehensive review of spinal kinematics and spinal positioning for manipulation techniques Examines evidence relating to cavitation and the clinical effectiveness of spinal manipulation Access to companion website – www.spinethoraxpelvis.com – containing: video bank of 56 videos (13 new) demonstrating HVLA thrust techniques from Part B of the book image bank of all 275 images from the book 2-colour throughout with over 30 new images Clinical history, presentation and examination for patients presenting with cervical artery dissection Addresses the important issues surrounding patient consent Additional research and guidelines that support the: use of HVLA thrust techniques use of spinal manipulation in the treatment of radiculopathy, pregnant women and children

The book provides a concise, readable, and up-to-date explanation of the numerous criminal prosecutions and large fines imposed on global banks for market manipulation, tax evasion, sanctions evasion, and money laundering. The book connects these cases with broader debates: Are global banks "too big to jail"? How much control can states exercise over global finance? Can they succeed in fighting problems such as market manipulation or tax evasion? Is U.S. unilateralism in this area to be feared, or does it pave the way for beneficial global reforms?

There are many ways to handle manipulation by individuals, a group, or government. Firstly, we need to recognise and understand a manipulative act, how it works, its motives, and why we, in particular, are its victims. To this end, the author seeks to illuminate "Human Manipulation" at all levels. This analysis provides the reader with a detailed definition, an understanding of the history and morality of human manipulation and an insight into the psychology of the manipulator and victim. The book identifies and examines 450 manipulative techniques in detail and explains what a victim can do to recognise, avoid and counteract them. Manipulation generally relies on human ignorance. So the better informed we are, the better our chances of detecting and managing manipulation when it is directed at us. This handbook is probably the most comprehensive study of human manipulation anywhere. It is a "must have" for any serious student of the subject.

Randomized Clinical Trials written by David Machin and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-05-20 with Medical categories.

Using examples and case studies from industry, academia and research literature, Randomized Clinical Trials provides a detailed overview of the key issues involved in designing, conducting, analysing and reporting randomized clinical trials. It examines the methodology for conducting Phase III clinical trials, developing the protocols, the practice for capturing, measuring, and analysing the resulting clinical data and their subsequent reporting. Randomized clinical trials are the principal method for determining the relative efficacy and safety of alternative treatments, interventions or medical devices. They are conducted by groups comprising one or more of pharmaceutical and allied health-care organisations, academic institutions, and charity supported research groups. In many cases such trials provide the key evidence necessary for the regulatory approval of a new product for future patient use. Randomized Clinical Trials provides comprehensive coverage of such trials, ranging from elementary to advanced level. Written by authors with considerable experience of clinical trials, Randomized Clinical Trials is an authoritative guide for clinicians, nurses, data managers and medical statisticians involved in clinical trials research and for health care professionals directly involved in patient care in a clinical trial context.

This is a comprehensive major reference work for our SpringerReference program covering clinical trials. Although the core of the Work will focus on the design, analysis, and interpretation of scientific data from clinical trials, a broad spectrum of clinical trial application areas will be covered in detail. This is an important time to develop such a Work, as drug safety and efficacy emphasizes the Clinical Trials process. Because of an immense and growing international disease burden, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies continue to develop new drugs. Clinical trials have also become extremely globalized in the past 15 years, with over 225,000 international trials ongoing at this point in time. Principles in Practice of Clinical Trials is truly an interdisciplinary that will be divided into the following areas: 1) Clinical Trials Basic Perspectives 2) Regulation and Oversight 3) Basic Trial Designs 4) Advanced Trial Designs 5) Analysis 6) Trial Publication 7) Topics Related Specific Populations and Legal Aspects of Clinical Trials The Work is designed to be comprised of 175 chapters and approximately 2500 pages. The Work will be oriented like many of our SpringerReference Handbooks, presenting detailed and comprehensive expository chapters on broad subjects. The Editors are major figures in the field of clinical trials, and both have written textbooks on the topic. There will also be a slate of 7-8 renowned associate editors that will edit individual sections of the Reference.

Studies In Language And Cognition written by Mats Andrén and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-12-18 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

Using a plethora of concepts, theories and methods, the theoretical and empirical studies described in this volume are united in their approach of treating language not in isolation (e.g. as a “module”), but as both based on structures and processes of cognition, and at the same time as affecting the human mind. The book is organized in 7 parts, corresponding to some of the major fields in language research today: (a) linguistic meta-theory and general issues, (b) lexical meaning, (c) metaphor, (d) grammar, (e) pragmatics, (f) gesture and bodily communication, and (g) historical linguistics. At the same time, the non-modular approach to language adopted by the authors is reflected by the fact that there are no strict boundaries between the parts. Thus, the book is a valuable contribution to the growing interdisciplinary field of Language and Cognition.
