If, as we believe, the history of languages is the history of the construction of an ideal artefact that permits a specific interpretation of the linguistic reality and helps to approve and assimilate a certain zone of diversity, enabling the accumulation of collective historical knowledge and making us identify it with a social community and a territory, then it must be agreed that languages are extremely complex entities. The new linguistic diversity that cultural globalisation and recent population movements have installed in most traditional linguistic territories has probably put the ideology of the national language into a state of crisis and, as a consequence, has made the ancient, intrinsic diversity of all languages visible, at least to the extent that this is still possible. Nowadays, then, the old linguistic diversity of dialects, of parlances, of local lexicons and the cultural forms that are reflected in these, of varieties and previously unsuccessful linguistic entities has been given a new opportunity in a world where the cohesion of societies and the welfare of citizens must be guaranteed using all available means. Looked at this way, the intricacy of languages may even open up an opportunity for local economic and social development.

J.M.G. Le Clézio et la métaphore exotique propose une analyse détaillée et approfondie de l'oeuvre de J.M.G. Le Clézio, prix Nobel de littérature 2008. La question de la « métaphore exotique » sert ici de fil conducteur et permet d'éclairer le corpus leclézien d'un triple point de vue textuel, anthropologique et psychanalytique. L'inscription problématique de l'espace et du voyage domine en effet toute la production littéraire de Le Clézio; et cette inscription s'accompagne d'une certaine ambiguïté générique. D'une part l'analyse montre que l'écriture du voyage fonctionne chez Le Clézio, comme chez Segalen, comme une « écriture des limites », c'est-à-dire comme un déplacement du sujet et du sens. Mais d'autre part l'analyse montre que l'écriture du voyage dessine chez Le Clézio un rapport singulier et ambivalent à l'espace postmoderne, au désenchantement du monde et à la disparition des grands mythes fondateurs, interrogeant l'acte même de la création littéraire. A la fois humaniste et antidogmatique, l'oeuvre de J.M.G. Aux discours triomphants sur les progrès de la science, les avancées technologiques et les gains sociopolitiques qui caractériseraient les sociétés dans lesquelles nous vivons, la « souffrance sociale » oppose un regard différent, critique, qui fait ressortir les maux qui sont comme l'envers de ces avancées et en constituent la face d'ombre. En sont les témoins une montée de formes traditionnelles et nouvelles de phénomènes de marginalisation et d'exclusion, le poids de la souffrance causée ou aggravée par certains modes de fonctionnement sociétaux, la manière dont les réponses institutionnelle et professionnelles à ces problèmes peuvent à leur tour contribuer à les aggraver et à accentuer tant les factures du tissu social contemporain que l'aliénation subjective ou objective dont souffrent de trop nombreuses personnes. Cet ouvrage vise à mettre ces questions en évidence en prenant appui sur les recherches que mènent depuis une quinzaine d'années les membres de l'Equipe de recherche et d'action en santé mentale et culture (ERASME), une équipe de recherche en partenariat entre chercheurs de milieu académique et groupes communautaires dans deux grands domaines: celui de la santé mentale et celui des questions d'immigration et de refuge.
