This lovely book celebrates both the should-probably-be-revived art of letter writing--yes, pen and stationery used for a communication process--and the special connection that can exist between people and their extended-family members. In this new offering by award-winning children's-book author Carol Bland Dolson, we watch a little girl and her aunt plan a trip together. They make their plan through a series of letters, written in verse. As is not uncommon with this sort of communication, the letters ultimately reveal the characters' personalities and, due to the subject matter, they also take us to exotic places. From Kokomo and Kalamazoo to Singapore and Serengeti, the people and places of the world take center stage. At the same time, the full-color illustrations by Elaine Hearn Rabon also give the reader a firm and pleasant grounding in the child's surroundings, even as she and her aunt dream up their itinerary. An excellent read-together book for parents and children as well as an early read-alone book, it might also make the perfect gift for an extended-family member. Who knows? It could be the beginning of an enjoyable correspondence. Or a grand world tour.

Winner of the 2011 Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award. In a monastery in the mountains of Mourne during the Middle Ages, one young monk struggled to focus on his task: copying the Bible and other scholarly books with plain brown ink made from wood bark in plain brown books in his plain brown robe at his plain brown desk. Brother Theophane was soon transferred from the scribe’s room and assigned to make the ink that the brothers used. With his natural curiosity, Theophane discovered that inks could be made from other plants besides the wood bark. Berries and leaves produced other beautiful colors. And soon, the books the monks made were illuminated with colors and drawings. C.M. Millen’s charming story of a young monk who defied the discipline of the monastery and found his own way to express the beauty of the world will inspire young readers to explore their own world and find their own voices. Andrea Wisnewski’s illustrations, inspired by the illuminated letters that the medieval monks created in books like the Book of Kells, bring to life the colors and beauty that surrounded Brother Theophane amidst the plain world of the monastery.

From the creator of the bestselling Anti-Coloring Book series with more than 600,000 copies sold, a new parenting guide to encouraging creativity in preschool-age children Young at Art is the first and only comprehensive book for the general audience about the nature, value and impact of art on very young children. Directed towards parents and educators of one to five year olds, Susan Striker explains why children's art is not a frill, but the very foundation upon which all later fundamental skills are built. She drives home the idea that encouraging children's artistic growth will have beneficial effects on all other aspects of their emotional and intellectual development. At the core of this practical guide is the understanding that art is an important tool in teaching young children crucial concepts related to self-expression, reading and writing. As opposed to more structured exercises, such as coloring on dittos and underlining pictures in workbooks, Striker stresses that scribbling and free drawing experiments are the most important art activities a child can engage in; they better prepare children to read independently as they grow. Young at Art provides descriptions for age-appropriate art activities, tips for carrying them out safely, and helps parents recognize what a child's art work should look like at each stage of development. With Young at Art, parents will develop realistic expectations of their children's work, learn how to speak to their children about their art, and facilitate skills well beyond their creativity that will benefit children.

If you don’t read anything else, please read this. It is OK to be different. Went I went to school there wasn’t anything as a LD student. If there were I would have been classified as LD. If your speech was slow and you were tongue tied or couldn’t hear to good or if you had dyslexia or couldn’t see too well you would end up in the back of the room. Kids would beat up on me because they though I was different. I was chased home by some of the schoolboys until I found it was a game for them. Since I was in the back of the room I couldn’t hear the teacher too well. When the teacher discovered that I hadn’t done what she said, she came back and hit me with her first in the middle of my back. That was sixty-three years ago and I still have pain in my back. Sometimes I have not been able to walk from this. You should not laugh or make fun of others or old people. After they get up around seventy they mostly talk about sickness and doctors. Some people are Paralyze from the neck down. Some people have dysconia which can give you pain and cripple you. Some people have Parkinson decease or even hiccups or stutter for years. Some people are Mongoloid or have Down syndrome and some have tourette. Or other decease. Some have Lupus.

The Power And Patronage Of Marguerite De Navarre written by Barbara Stephenson and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-05 with History categories.

Although Marguerite de Navarre's unique position in sixteenth-century France has long been acknowledged and she is one of the most studied women of the time, until now no study has focused attention on Marguerite's political life. Barbara Stephenson here fills the gap, delineating Marguerite's formal political position and highlighting her actions as a figure with the opportunity to exercise power through both official and unofficial channels. Through Marguerite's surviving correspondence, Stephenson traces the various networks through which this French noblewoman exercised the power available to her to further the careers of political and religious clients, as well as her struggle to protect the interests of her brother the king and those of her own family and household. The analysis of Marguerite's activities sheds light on noble society as a whole.
