Marie Marvingt (1875-1963) set the world's first women's aviation records, won the only gold medal for outstanding performance in all sports, invented the airplane ambulance, was the first female bomber pilot in history, fought in World War I disguised as a man, took part in the Resistance of World War II, was the first to survive crossing the English Channel in a balloon, worked all her life as a journalist, spent years in North Africa and invented metal skis. Her life story was so unusually rich in exploits and accomplishments that some dismissed it as a hoax. This biography explores the life of "the most incredible woman since Joan of Arc" and investigates the reasons she has been forgotten. Known as the "fiancee of danger," she was the model for the silent film series The Perils of Pauline.

The History Of The Female Shipwright written by Mary Lacy and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

In 1759, at the age of nineteen, Mary Lacy donned a pair of men's breeches, adopted the name of William Chandler, and went to sea. Her autobiography (first published in 1773) chronicles her sea-faring adventures and gives a fascinating insight into the hardships of ordinary sailors in the 18th-century Navy. For her these were compounded by having to pretend to be a man. She nonetheless earned a name as a strong and reliable worker and, back on dry land, became an accomplished ship builder. Destitution, betrayal and amorous encounters all play a part in this intriguing tale. A brief introduction by Margarette Lincoln, Deputy Director of the National Maritime Museum, provides the historical context for this remarkable account.

The Boeing B 47 Stratojet Strategic Air Command S Transitional Bomber written by Robert S. Hopkins, III and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018 with B-47 bomber categories.

The B-47 was the aircraft upon which Strategic Air Command (SAC) based its capability pending the development and delivery of the B-52. First proposed during WWII as a high-speed piston-powered reconnaissance platform, the B-47 evolved into what would become the first swept-wing, medium jet bomber and SAC's most numerous operational aircraft. Given its pioneering role as a jet bomber and the ongoing evolution of SAC's mission and US national security, the B-47 had more than its share of teething problems. Initial Boeing flight tests mixed triumph with tragedy, and demonstrated that an entirely new way of flying a large aircraft was required. Poor reliability in the bombing-navigation and fire-control systems undermined the effectiveness of early B-47Bs but were eventually overcome as the aircraft evolved to fill many different roles. Used as reconnaissance, weather, testbed and radio relay platforms, one variant, the EB-47E BLUE CRADLE, also demonstrated its versatility as an electronic warfare jammer while the RB-47H, ERB-47H, and EB-47E(TT) undertook electronic intelligence and gathered telemetry associated with the Soviet ICBM program. Authors Mike Habermehl and former SAC pilot Robert S. Hopkins III have combined years of research and experience to provide the ultimate history of the Stratojet.
