Marine Environments: Diversity, Threats and Conservation presents important challenges and advances in the field of marine bioindicators in recent years, which could be relevant for integrative monitoring purposes and the development of new approaches and technologies in marine pollution monitoring. The authors describe history of the development of organophosphorus pesticides, their behavior, currents concentrations in marine environments, and effects on marine biota. The environmental behavior of organochlorine pesticides is reviewed, along with their effects on biota in global marine coastal environments, noting that these compounds are still detectable and potentially harmful. In one study, stranded cetaceans and Pacific cods are used as indicator species to compare the contamination levels of radiocesium in three seas shortly after the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Accident in 2011.A comparison between different extraction and detection techniques used for the determination of organic and inorganic pollutants in environmental matrices such as biota, water, and sediment is investigated.Additionally, the authors address the influence of plastic pollution on marine environments through continental water bodies. The potential application of the UV/persulfate process for the degradation of emerging organic pollutants in seawater is discussed, using chlorazol black as a substrate model. The implications of atmospheric transport in the circulation of organochlorine pesticides are considered, presenting the relevance of atmospheric deposition to the oceans as a key process that affects marine environments. The penultimate chapter assesses the health of Black Sea fish species belonging to different ecological groups. In particular, the hystopathological and biochemical biomarkers of the blood, spleen and liver are studied. In closing, the authors propose a Containerized Marine Knowledge System by means of IoT-Cloud and LoRaWAN to improve marine environment monitoring.

Authored by world-class scientists and scholars, The Handbook of Natural Resources, Second Edition, is an excellent reference for understanding the consequences of changing natural resources to the degradation of ecological integrity and the sustainability of life. Based on the content of the bestselling and CHOICE-awarded Encyclopedia of Natural Resources, this new edition demonstrates the major challenges that the society is facing for the sustainability of all well-being on the planet Earth. The experience, evidence, methods, and models used in studying natural resources are presented in six stand-alone volumes, arranged along the main systems of land, water, and air. It reviews state-of-the-art knowledge, highlights advances made in different areas, and provides guidance for the appropriate use of remote sensing and geospatial data with field-based measurements in the study of natural resources. Volume 5, Coastal and Marine Environments, discusses marine and coastal ecosystems, their biodiversity, conservation, and integrated marine management plans. It provides fundamental information on coastal and estuarine systems and includes discussions on coastal erosion and shoreline change, natural disasters, evaporation and energy balance, fisheries and marine resource management, and more. New in this edition are discussions on sea level rise, renewable energy, coral reef restoration, fishery resource economics, and coastal remote sensing. This volume demonstrates the key processes, methods, and models used through many case studies from around the world. Written in an easy-to-reference manner, The Handbook of Natural Resources, Second Edition, as individual volumes or as a complete set, is an essential reading for anyone looking for a deeper understanding of the science and management of natural resources. Public and private libraries, educational and research institutions, scientists, scholars, and resource managers will benefit enormously from this set. Individual volumes and chapters can also be used in a wide variety of both graduate and undergraduate courses in environmental science and natural science at different levels and disciplines, such as biology, geography, earth system science, and ecology.

The book ''Applied Studies of Coastal and Marine Environments'' is a collection of a number of high-quality and comprehensive work on coastal and marine environment. This book has an Introductory Chapter, followed by 15 chapters. Chapters 2 and 3 are devoted to coastal geological sedimentation and its impacts on marine environment. Consequently, Chapter 4 investigates neo-tectonic movement in the Pearl River Delta. Different aspects of the coastal pollution and its impacts are addressed in Chapter 5 through Chapter 13. Furthermore, coastal management is also discussed in Chapter 14, and monitoring the coastal environment using remote sensing and GIS techniques is reported in Chapter 15. Finally, Chapter 16 addresses the human history of maritime exploitation and adaptation process to coastal and marine environments. It is important to investigate the history of maritime exploitation and adaptation to environment coastal zone to learn how to explore the oceans.

This book systematizes the concepts of contemporary coastal zone management and suggests possible structural and non-structural management tools for decision-making processes. Some successful adaptation measures and case studies on oceanic processes and coastal protection are discussed. High-frequency communications in coastal and marine environments are also addressed. All chapters contribute relevant information and useful content to scientists and other readers interested or concerned about the lack of adequate management actions and the installation of appropriate protections or their ineffectiveness in containing coastal vulnerabilities and risks.

This report provides an overview of the current state of the coastal and marine environment in relation to the nine categories of threats outlined by the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities (GPA). The report indicates that legal and institutional arrangements have been strengthened and now cover most regions of the world, but that despite these heightened efforts globally, coastal and marine ecosystems continue to deteriorate mainly because of pressures by human development. Information Engineering for Port and Marine Environments provides the technology of tidal level prediction, the technology of oil spill early-warning, and the research for the theory of storm sedimentation, the construction for monitor ability, the early-warning service for numerical simulation and operational, which involves many aspects such as theoretical research, system establishment, and application of information technology, et al. Because of the certain prospective and advancement of multiple work, it will play a positive role in promoting the related technology of the field. There are several of important offshore ports in China, such as Tianjin port, Yangshan Port, Ningbo-Zhoushan port, Huanghua port et al., most of them are located in the coast of muddy and muddy silty, and the depth of water is shallow, the sediment deposition is serious, the large ship is operated by tide. In order to sufficiently keep the rapid and stable economic growth in bay, estuary and delta, guarantee the security of port, channel, maritime, oceanic engineering and resource development of oil and gas, and better escort for the social economy activities, it is essential to provide the information service of sediment and ocean hydrometeorology with width coverage, and forecasting and warning information. It is all the latest research results in the book, which involves many fields such as physical oceanography, meteorology, biology, chemistry, geology, environment, transportation and law and so on. The development of information assurance and prediction system for port shipping and ocean environment is a huge and arduous project. It is too hasty to finish the book, due to the limited knowledge of the author, the careless is unavoidable, cordially invites the readers to point out. Features: An entire system to forecast the port shipping and ocean environment information is proposed, including what is the port shipping and ocean environment information. The concept of port shipping and ocean environment data integration is presented, and the essential modules are built for the ocean dynamics model.
