Growing up in the idyllic town of Bardejov, Czechoslovakia, before World War II, Marcus Rosenbergs rights and freedoms as a Jew were protected by a democratic government. When the fascist Hlinka party gained control of the country in 1939, however, the situation took a dramatic turn. Sympathetic to the Third Reich, the new government instigated a vast number of Nazi-like, anti-Jewish laws and began deporting its Jewish citizens to the east. The Rosenberg family was torn apart by war, deportations, and horrific experiences in the Nazi death camps. Miraculously, Marcus Rosenberg and three of his siblings survived, returning to Bardejov to rebuild their lives. Within a few short years, the country was again taken over, this time by Communists, and the Rosenbergs escaped to the United States. In Markus, Planter of Trees, author Elizabeth Meyer Liener narrates the daring and courageous story of Marcus Rosenbergrevealing tragedy and renewal, the building of a new life, lofty dreams, endless work, and noteworthy accomplishments. She shows how Rosenbergs inspiring and important successes came not only in the world of business, but in the world of philanthropy and religious perpetuity as well. He was a man of tenacity and perseverance, a role model, and a builder of community.

Jonas Black lives a peaceful life in the Europa mining colony and has spent the last two years building Mantaa " a submarine with an onboard artificial intelligence that soon becomes one of his closest friends. When Jonas embarks on a journey to explore the planetary ocean of Jupiter's moon Europa, he does not expect to discover the secret beginnings of life on the planet and place himself on the edge of a battle for his very life. Deep in the trenches of Europa's ocean Jonas discovers an abandoned undersea science facility, and although the magnificent ship he salvages from it is even better than the sunken treasures of old, the mystery lurking within this facility is chilling. Once surfaced, Jonas must quickly discover what he is made of and reconcile the collapse of his near religious belief in science and his sudden position within the sights of an assassin's gun. When he learns of the brutal and bloody coup that has transpired in his absence, Jonas must venture into the abyss and help his friends and family take back the colony from the hands of ruthless mercenaries before it's too late. Jonas, together with an old mentor, and his two best friends finds that there are still people who will fight for their freedom against those who would enslave the people of their colony. Through faith, cunning and simple good luck, they just might manage to overthrow their oppressors and return peace to Europa. In a beautifully woven tale of betrayal, love, tragedy and redemption, author J.A. Sanderlin fights an interplanetary war for Europa, and the freedom of the people who live there. J.A. Sanderlin resides in Texas with his wife and spends his time studying physics, biology, natural history, weapons, and martial history. He enjoys scuba diving, rock climbing, and mountain biking, and hopes to join the literary ranks of Dumas, Doyle, Lewis, Blackwell, Lamour and Clancy."

This book offers another frame through which to view the event of the outrigger landing of 43 West Papuans in Australia in 2006. West Papuans have crossed boundaries to seek asylum since 1962, usually eastward into Papua New Guinea (PNG), and occasionally southward to Australia. Between 1984-86, around 11,000 people crossed into PNG seeking asylum. After the Government of PNG acceded to the United Nations Convention and Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees, West Papuans were relocated from informal camps on the international border to a single inland location called East Awin. This volume provides an ethnography of that settlement based on the author's fieldwork carried out in 1998-99.
