THE FIRST CHILDREN IN SPACE WERE NOT ORDINARY.In the year 2063, exploration of Mars moons Phobos and Deimos was developed to a level comparable to that of the Earth's Moon. Although there were eleven billion mouths to feed on Earth, mining and agricultural development in the space colonies ensured that mankind would never have to go hungry. But who would be in charge? Funded by greedy developers, the Mars development on Moon Phobos threatened to dwarf the production on the much smaller Earth Moon Colony and, therefore make it obsolete. Carmen was determined to have her revenge, as she sat in command of the Mars space station orbiting Mars Moon Phobos, Carmen would stop at nothing. Ten years earlier, Carmen had been an impulsive eight year old student at the Dream Caster Institute on the space station orbiting the Earth's moon. She had been expelled from study there, for abusing her powers. Angry about her older sister Marisol's suicide some years before, Carmen grew to blame the Institute for her sister's mental illness that led to her death and was bitter about her own expulsion. Carmen had the skills and the intellect to follow in her sister's footsteps as the beacon child at the Institute, yet, she never fit in because of her bad temperament and her extraordinary abilities. She came from Colombia South America, to study at the Institute, and unlike her peers, she already had mastered advanced dream sequencing abilities. While other students acquired these skills as well as a sense of appreciation and patience, humility and tolerance, Carmen missed the importance of undergoing this process. Carmen became a bad influence on Maximilian Herman who was just six years old at the time. He was identified, because of his advanced dream sequencing skills and was the Institute's rising star. Short of corrupting Max, Carmen caught the wrath of the advanced level adults in charge of the Institute known as "Controllers" and was quickly expelled. She went away; but her abilities did not. Ten years later, she was placed in a position of power at the rival Mars mining and agricultural development. Carmen had the skills of the Earth Moon Controllers and gained considerable wealth, but she was full of animosity. Maximilian Herman was the only human being that could stand in her way. THE FIRST TEENAGERS IN SPACE WERE EXTRAORDINARY.

Edible Insects written by Arnold van Huis and has been published by Bright Sparks this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Conservation of natural resources categories.

Edible insects have always been a part of human diets, but in some societies there remains a degree of disdain and disgust for their consumption. Although the majority of consumed insects are gathered in forest habitats, mass-rearing systems are being developed in many countries. Insects offer a significant opportunity to merge traditional knowledge and modern science to improve human food security worldwide. This publication describes the contribution of insects to food security and examines future prospects for raising insects at a commercial scale to improve food and feed production, diversify diets, and support livelihoods in both developing and developed countries. It shows the many traditional and potential new uses of insects for direct human consumption and the opportunities for and constraints to farming them for food and feed. It examines the body of research on issues such as insect nutrition and food safety, the use of insects as animal feed, and the processing and preservation of insects and their products. It highlights the need to develop a regulatory framework to govern the use of insects for food security. And it presents case studies and examples from around the world. Edible insects are a promising alternative to the conventional production of meat, either for direct human consumption or for indirect use as feedstock. To fully realise this potential, much work needs to be done by a wide range of stakeholders. This publication will boost awareness of the many valuable roles that insects play in sustaining nature and human life, and it will stimulate debate on the expansion of the use of insects as food and feed.

Love Customs In Eighteenth Century Spain written by Carmen Martín Gaite and has been published by Univ of California Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991-01-01 with History categories.

It was customary for the wife of a nobleman in eighteenth-century Spain to be courted fervently and seemingly forever, by a man who was not her husband. This liaison, accepted and even encouraged by the husband, was presumably platonic, though that may not always have been the case. It was carried on according to a complex, if ambiguous, code of companionship and whispered conversation. With the help of a lively blend of archival documents and literary sources, Carmen Martín Gaite admits us to the intricacies of the code and unravels its significance for the women who enjoyed the attention of a cortejo, or escort. Why was the cortejo tolerated, by society and by the woman's aristocratic family, even though it infringed traditional religious precepts? What did woman and her friend talk about at such length? Was their flirtation intellectual, reflecting the effects of Enlightenment rationalism on Spanish culture? Letters, memoirs, and travel journals as well as dramatic works of the period offer invaluable clues to the nature of these relationships, in which the woman was almost ritually adored and placed on a pedestal. The conversation, we learn, was generally frivolous, focusing on possessions and luxuries in a way that clearly signals economic change and the dawn of a material age. At the same time, the cortejo did represent a taste of symbolic liberation for women whose social lives were rigidly constrained. Clarifying details from a great variety of historical sources are presented with the urgency and fluidity of a novel in this excellent English translation -- Book jacket.

Mars is a desolate world. Largely forgotten by Earth, the planet remains helpless in the stranglehold of Arnie Kott, who as boss of the plumbers' union has a monopoly over the vital water supply. Arnie Kott is obsessed by the past; the native Bleekmen, poverty-stricken wanderers, can see into the future; while to Manfred, an autistic boy, time apparently stops. When one of the colonists, Norbert Steiner, commits suicide, the repercussions are startling and bizarre.
