Masada Revisited II gives a different view of what happened at Masada in 73ce when the Jewish defenders, according to the only historical account as given by Josephus in his book "The Jewish War", committed mass suicide. Many Jewish people are disconcerted by this version of the story. Since Josephus wrote under the constraint of trying to please his Roman sponsors, his accuracy is suspect. The version given in this play is hopefully more palatable.

This book contains six plays with titles: Masada Revisited III Irresistible Impulse Redemption Isaac and Amanda One Plus One Equals One Hypatia Masada Revisited III contains all of the material contained in two other published plays of the author, with titles Masada Revisited and Masada Revisited II, except for two scenes which contain material of a historical and religious nature. Masada is a site in modern-day Israel near the Dead Sea. It was the last stronghold of the Jews in the Jewish War against the Romans which lasted from 66 AD to 70 AD. According to some versions of history the mountain top fortress, Masada, was able to withstand a Roman siege that lasted for three years until 73 AD when the Romans finally captured the fortress. According to the historian Josephus, when the Romans did finally enter the fortress, all they found were dead bodies, except for two women and five children hiding in a cave. Irresistible Impulse had two earlier published versions with titles Death of a Psychiatrist and Retribution. Hypatia is a play about a real woman who lived in Alexandria Egypt in the later part of the fourth century AD and early part of the fifth century AD. The play is only partly historical.

Masada Revisited written by Arthur Ziffer and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-12 with Drama categories.

The play "Masada Revisited" is a semi - fictionalized retelling in play form of an incident set in the locale of Masada, a place near the Dead Sea in modern day Israel, that occurred in 73 ce. It refers to the last event of the Jewish War against the Romans that lasted from 66 ce to 70 ce with cleanup operations lasting until 73 ce, Masada being the last one. The only historical refence is from the book "The Jewish War Against the Romans" written by the historian Josephus who lived in the first century ce. Josephus was not an eyewitness to the incident and was notoriously inaccurate sometimes as well as having to write under the constraint of ingratiating himself with his Roman sponsors. Many Jewish people object to the original form of the story. This version is, hopefully, less objectionable. "The book "Judas the Galilean" by Daniel Unterbrink published by iUniverse contains some background material that is referred to in the play "Masada Revisited.""

Recovered Roots written by Yael Zerubavel and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with History categories.

Because new nations need new pasts, they create new ways of commemorating and recasting select historic events. In Recovered Roots, Yael Zerubavel illuminates this dynamic process by examining the construction of Israeli national tradition. In the years leading to the birth of Israel, Zerubavel shows, Zionist settlers in Palestine consciously sought to rewrite Jewish history by reshaping Jewish memory. Zerubavel focuses on the nationalist reinterpretation of the defense of Masada against the Romans in 73 C.E. and the Bar Kokhba revolt of 133-135; and on the transformation of the 1920 defense of a new Jewish settlement in Tel Hai into a national myth. Zerubavel demonstrates how, in each case, Israeli memory transforms events that ended in death and defeat into heroic myths and symbols of national revival. Drawing on a broad range of official and popular sources and original interviews, Zerubavel shows that the construction of a new national tradition is not necessarily the product of government policy but a creative collaboration between politicans, writers, and educators. Her discussion of the politics of commemoration demonstrates how rival groups can turn the past into an arena of conflict as they posit competing interpretations of history and opposing moral claims on the use of the past. Zerubavel analyzes the emergence of counter-memories within the reality of Israel's frequent wars, the ensuing debates about the future of the occupied territories, and the embattled relations with Palestinians. A fascinating examination of the interplay between history and memory, this book will appeal to historians, sociologists, anthropologists, political scientists, and folklorists, as well as to scholars of cultural studies, literature, and communication.

Countertransference And Other Plays written by Arthur Ziffer and has been published by Xlibris Corporation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-08-17 with Performing Arts categories.

This book consists of four plays. The first one is a three scene play, Countertransference. The first scene is a modification of a play of the same name from an earlier Xlibris publication, Countertransference and Retribution, consisting of two plays with names as indicated. The second play, Irresistible Impulse is a two act play which is a modification of the play “Retribution” from the aforementioned Xlibris publication. The third play, “Masada Revisited II” is a play about a famous incident in Jewish history that occurred in 73 C.E. It is about the last stronghold of the Jews in the war against the Romans that began in 66 C.E in the region that is Israel today. Masada, a mountaintop fortress near the Dead Sea was the last stronghold of the Jews which the Romans besieged for, supposedly, three years. On the night before when it was very likely that the fortress would be captured by the Romans the next day, the Jewish defenders committed mass suicide so that when the Romans entered the fortress the next morning all they found were dead bodies. This comes down in history from one author, Josephus, a Roman Jewish author. Since Josephus wrote to satisfy the Romans, his version of what happened is suspect. The play in this book gives a different take on what happened there. The last play, “On the Shoulders of Giants” is a play about the famous mathematician Isaac Newton. This play was co-authored with Herbert Hauptman. Herbert Hauptman was the first mathematician to win a Nobel Prize. Since there is no prize in mathematics, he won it in chemistry in 1985 for his work in applying mathematics (Advanced Probability) to crystallography. John Nash of “A Beautiful Mind” was the second mathematician to win a Nobel Prize. He won it for his work in applying mathematics (Game Theory) to economics.
