Corrosion And Protection Of Materials written by Marina Cabrini and has been published by MDPI this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-04-06 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book contains thirty articles on various topics related to the corrosion and protection of metallic materials. This topic is of strong actuality both due to the aging of plants and infrastructures that require checks and maintenance, and to the use of traditional materials in increasingly aggressive environments, added to the need of changing the current anti-corrosion systems with less environmental impact methods. Finally, the new development of innovative materials, such as additive manufacturing or high-entropy alloys, needs the characterization of their corrosion behavior. In this issue, there are works on new alloys obtained for additive manufacturing or high entropy, on the study of corrosion and stress corrosion cracking and hydrogen embrittlement mechanisms, through electrochemical and microscopical techniques, studies on low environmental impact inhibitors and biocides, as well as ceramic and metal protective coatings. Finally, there are works on the study of the residual mechanical resistance of corroded infrastructures and on monitoring and non-destructive control. In this way, the book therefore offers a somewhat varied panorama of research trends in the field.

The concept of size-dependent material properties becomes dominant in the materials science community. Understanding the size-dependent properties of materials is the most challenging issue in advanced material science. To a great extent, this is a result of the technological requirements concerning the development of materials with controlled properties, as well as of the recent progress in materials science, nanotechnology, and computational chemistry. The aim of this Special Issue was to discuss the dimensional effects of materials for environmental protection and clean energy production as an innovative approach for the development of innovative materials with improved properties. The Special Issue comprises, but is not limited to, the following three main classes of advanced inorganic materials that form the basis of modern technologies: (1) materials and thin films for environmental protection; (2) materials for clean energy storage; and (3) ceramics/bioceramics and glasses for better living (with applications in optics, molecular electronics, and medicine).

Opportunities In Protection Materials Science And Technology For Future Army Applications written by National Research Council and has been published by National Academies Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-07-27 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Armor plays a significant role in the protection of warriors. During the course of history, the introduction of new materials and improvements in the materials already used to construct armor has led to better protection and a reduction in the weight of the armor. But even with such advances in materials, the weight of the armor required to manage threats of ever-increasing destructive capability presents a huge challenge. Opportunities in Protection Materials Science and Technology for Future Army Applications explores the current theoretical and experimental understanding of the key issues surrounding protection materials, identifies the major challenges and technical gaps for developing the future generation of lightweight protection materials, and recommends a path forward for their development. It examines multiscale shockwave energy transfer mechanisms and experimental approaches for their characterization over short timescales, as well as multiscale modeling techniques to predict mechanisms for dissipating energy. The report also considers exemplary threats and design philosophy for the three key applications of armor systems: (1) personnel protection, including body armor and helmets, (2) vehicle armor, and (3) transparent armor. Opportunities in Protection Materials Science and Technology for Future Army Applications recommends that the Department of Defense (DoD) establish a defense initiative for protection materials by design (PMD), with associated funding lines for basic and applied research. The PMD initiative should include a combination of computational, experimental, and materials testing, characterization, and processing research conducted by government, industry, and academia.
