Material Science Of Polymers For Engineers written by Tim A. Osswald and has been published by Hanser Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This unified approach to polymer materials science is divided in three major sections: Basic Principles - covering historical background, basic material properties, molecular structure, and thermal properties of polymers. Influence of Processing on Properties - tying processing and design by discussing rheology of polymer melts, mixing and processing, the development of anisotropy, and solidification processes. Engineering Design Properties - covering the different properties that need to be considered when designing a polymer component - from mechanical properties to failure mechanisms, electrical properties, acoustic properties, and permeability of polymers. A new chapter introducing polymers from a historical perspective not only makes the topic less dry, but also sheds light on the role polymers played, for better and worse, in shaping today's industrial world. The first edition was praised for the vast number of graphs and data that can be used as a reference. A new table in the appendix containing material property graphs for several polymers further strengthens this attribute. The most important change made to this edition is the introduction of real-world examples and a variety of problems at the end of each chapter.

Polymer Products written by D. Morton-Jones and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Science categories.

This book is derived from a recent project sponsored by the Polymer Engineering Directorate of the SERC and carried out at the University of Lancaster under the joint auspices of the Departments of Chemistry and Engineering. The project set out to provide a novel type of teaching material for introducing polymers and their uses to students, especially of engineering. Case studies of real examples of polymers at work are used, so the student or teacher can start with a successful and well-designed product and work backwards to its origins in the market, in design and material selection and in the manufacturing process. The philosophy is that such an approach captures interest right at the start by means of a real example and then retains it because of the relevance of the technical explanation. This after all is what most of us do habitually; we turn to examples to make our point. The hope is that subject matter with a somewhat notorious reputation among engineers, such as aspects of polymer chemistry and the non-linear behaviour of polymers under mechanical loading will be fairly painlessly absorbed through the context of the examples. Each study becomes a separate chapter in the book. The original studies, and hence the present chapters, vary in length because different topics demanded different approaches. No attempt has been made to alter this, or to adopt a standardized format because to have done so would have interfered with the vitality of the original work.

Materials Science for Engineering Students offers students of introductory materials science and engineering, and their instructors, a fresh perspective on the rapidly evolving world of advanced engineering materials. This new, concise text takes a more contemporary approach to materials science than the more traditional books in this subject, with a special emphasis on using an inductive method to first introduce materials and their particular properties and then to explain the underlying physical and chemical phenomena responsible for those properties. The text pays particular attention to the newer classes of materials, such as ceramics, polymers and composites, and treats them as part of two essential classes – structural materials and functional materials – rather than the traditional method of emphasizing structural materials alone. This book is recommended for second and third year engineering students taking a required one- or two-semester sequence in introductory materials science and engineering as well as graduate-level students in materials, electrical, chemical and manufacturing engineering who need to take this as a core prerequisite. Presents balanced coverage of both structural and functional materials Types of materials are introduced first, followed by explanation of physical and chemical phenomena that drive their specific properties Strong focus on engineering applications of materials The first materials science text to include a whole chapter devoted to batteries Provides clear, mathematically simple explanations of basic chemistry and physics underlying materials properties

The Elements of Polymer Science and Engineering, Third Edition, is a textbook for one- or two-semester introductory courses in polymer science and engineering taught primarily to senior undergraduate and first-year graduate students in a variety of disciplines, but primarily chemical engineering and materials science. Since the publication of the second edition in 1999, the field of polymers has advanced considerably. A key feature of this new edition is the inclusion of new concepts such as polymer nanocomposites and metallocene catalysts in existing chapters as well as new chapters covering selected contemporary topics such as behavior of natural polymers, polymer dynamics, and diffusion in polymers. This book has been completely reorganized to become more aligned with how instructors currently teach the course. There are now several enhancements to the book’s pedagogy, including the addition of numerous worked examples and new figures to better illustrate key concepts and the addition of a large number of end-of-chapter exercises, many of which are based on recently published research and relevant industrial data. This third edition will appeal to advanced undergraduate and graduate students in the physics, chemistry, and chemical engineering departments who are taking courses related to polymer science and engineering, as well as engineers new to the field of polymers. Focuses on applications of polymer chemistry, engineering, and technology Explains terminology, applications, and versatility of synthetic polymers Connects polymerization chemistry with engineering applications Contains practical lead-ins to emulsion polymerization, viscoelasticity, and polymer rheology
