If motherhood is a sorority, then pregnancy is its nine-month hazing ritual. Weight gain, mood swings, unfashionable clothes: You need a good sense of humor to get through it all, even if you are the dad! Now there's a great book to help you laugh—and sing—about all the embarrassing inconveniences leading up to the blessed event. Maternity the Musical! is a hilarious songbook of parody lyrics to favorite tunes, all about the true sighs and highs of pregnancy. Maternity the Musical! covers all of the ups and downs of pregnancy, from weird cravings and Lamaze class to the plethora of pregnancy advice and impossible-to-assemble baby equipment. Experienced mothers and mothers-to-be will be rolling on the floor with laughter and recognition at lyrics like these, sung to the tune of "The Hokey Pokey": You take a short breath in, You let a short breath out, Because your lungs are squished, And you're stuffy in your snout. You eat because you're starving, And then you feel too full, You can't get comfortable! Maternity the Musical! is a riotous pregnancy sing-along sure to induce laughs (if not labor!) and be the hit of any baby shower.

Performing Maternity in Early Modern England features essays that share a common concern with exploring maternity's cultural representation, performative aspects and practical consequences in the period from 1540-1690. The essays interrogate how early modern texts depict fertility, conception, delivery and gendered constructions of maternity by analyzing a wealth of historical documents and images in conjunction with dramatic and non-dramatic literary texts. They emphasize that the embodied, repeated and public nature of maternity defines it as inherently performative and ultimately central to the production of gender identity during the early modern period.

They move through the corridors like sharks, the other little fish parting around them, whispering behind their backs. And everyone knows who the Hollow sisters are. Because one day the three Hollow sisters simply disappeared. And when they came back, one month later, with no memory of where they had been, it was as if nothing had changed. Almost nothing. Apart from, for example, the little scar that had appeared in the hollow of their throats ... and a whispering sense that something is not quite right about them, despite (or maybe because of) the terrible passion to be with them that they can exert on anybody at will... A thrilling, twisting, novel that is as seductive and glamorous as the Hollow sisters themselves....

The Oxford Handbook Of Music And Disability Studies written by Blake Howe and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-11-11 with Music categories.

The Oxford Handbook of Disability Studies represents a comprehensive state of current research for the field of Disability Studies and Music. The forty-two chapters in the book span a wide chronological and geographical range, from the biblical, the medieval, and the Elizabethan, through the canonical classics of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, up to modernist styles and contemporary musical theater and popular genres, with stops along the way in post-Civil War America, Ghana and the South Pacific, and many other interesting times and places. Disability is a broad, heterogeneous, and porous identity, and that diversity is reflected in the variety of bodily conditions under discussion here, including autism and intellectual disability, deafness, blindness, mobility impairment often coupled with bodily difference, and cognitive and intellectual impairments. Amid this diversity of time, place, style, medium, and topic, the chapters share two core commitments. First, they are united in their theoretical and methodological connection to Disability Studies, especially its central idea that disability is a social and cultural construction. Disability both shapes and is shaped by culture, including musical culture. Second, these essays individually and collectively make the case that disability is not something at the periphery of culture and music, but something central to our art and to our humanity.
