As physicists, mathematicians or engineers, we are all involved with mathematical calculations in our everyday work. Most of the laborious, complicated, and time-consuming calculations have to be done over and over again if we want to check the validity of our assumptions and derive new phenomena from changing models. Even in the age of computers, we often use paper and pencil to do our calculations. However, computer programs like Mathematica have revolutionized our working methods. Mathematica not only supports popular numerical calculations but also enables us to do exact analytical calculations by computer. Once we know the analytical representations of physical phenomena, we are able to use Mathematica to create graphical representations of these relations. Days of calculations by hand have shrunk to minutes by using Mathematica. Results can be verified within a few seconds, a task that took hours if not days in the past. The present text uses Mathematica as a tool to discuss andto solve examples from physics. The intention of this book is to demonstrate the usefulness of Mathematica in everyday applications. We will not give a complete description of its syntax but demonstrate by examples the use of its language. In particular, we show how this modern tool is used to solve classical problems. viii Preface This second edition of Mathematica in Theoretical Physics seeks to prevent the objectives and emphasis of the previous edition.

Group Theory In Solid State Physics And Photonics written by Wolfram Hergert and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-04-20 with Science categories.

While group theory and its application to solid state physics is well established, this textbook raises two completely new aspects. First, it provides a better understanding by focusing on problem solving and making extensive use of Mathematica tools to visualize the concepts. Second, it offers a new tool for the photonics community by transferring the concepts of group theory and its application to photonic crystals. Clearly divided into three parts, the first provides the basics of group theory. Even at this stage, the authors go beyond the widely used standard examples to show the broad field of applications. Part II is devoted to applications in condensed matter physics, i.e. the electronic structure of materials. Combining the application of the computer algebra system Mathematica with pen and paper derivations leads to a better and faster understanding. The exhaustive discussion shows that the basics of group theory can also be applied to a totally different field, as seen in Part III. Here, photonic applications are discussed in parallel to the electronic case, with the focus on photonic crystals in two and three dimensions, as well as being partially expanded to other problems in the field of photonics. The authors have developed Mathematica package GTPack which is available for download from the book's homepage. Analytic considerations, numerical calculations and visualization are carried out using the same software. While the use of the Mathematica tools are demonstrated on elementary examples, they can equally be applied to more complicated tasks resulting from the reader's own research.

Using Mathematica For Quantum Mechanics written by Roman Schmied and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-09-28 with Science categories.

This book revisits many of the problems encountered in introductory quantum mechanics, focusing on computer implementations for finding and visualizing analytical and numerical solutions. It subsequently uses these implementations as building blocks to solve more complex problems, such as coherent laser-driven dynamics in the Rubidium hyperfine structure or the Rashba interaction of an electron moving in 2D. The simulations are highlighted using the programming language Mathematica. No prior knowledge of Mathematica is needed; alternatives, such as Matlab, Python, or Maple, can also be used.

Using computers to solve problems and model physical problems has fast become an integral part of undergraduate and graduate education in physics. This 3rd year undergraduate and subsequent graduate course is a supplement to courses in theoretical physics and develops problem-solving techniques using the computer. It makes use of the newest version of Mathematica (3.0) while still remaining compatible with older versions The programs using Mathematica 3.0 and C are written for both PCs and workstations, and the problems, source files, and graphic routines help students gain experience from the very beginning.

Selected Mathematical Methods In Theoretical Physics written by Vladmir P. Krainov and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-10-18 with Science categories.

Selected Mathematical Methods in Theoretical Physics shows how a scientist, knowing the answer to a problem intuitively or through experiment, can develop a mathematical method to prove that answer. The approach adopted by the author first involves the formulation of differential or integral equations for describing the physical procession, the basis of more general physical laws. Then the approximate solution of these equations is worked out, using small dimensionless physical parameters, or using numerical parameters for the objects under consideration. The eleven chapters of the book, which can be read in sequence or studied independently of each other, contain many examples of simple physical models, as well as problems for students to solve. This is a supplementary textbook for advanced university students in theoretical physics. It will enrich the knowledge of students who already have a solid grounding in mathematical analysis.
