LOGLAN '88 belongs to the family of object oriented programming languages. It embraces all important known tools and characteristics of OOP, i.e. classes, objects, inheritance, coroutine sequencing, but it does not get rid of traditional imperative programming: primitive types do not need to be objects; records, static arrays, subtypes and other similar type contructs are admitted. LOGLAN has non-traditional memory model which accepts programmed deallocation but avoids dangling reference. The LOGLAN semantic model provides multi-level inheritance, which properly cooperates with module nesting. Parallelism in LOGLAN has an object oriented nature. Processes are treated like objects of classes and communication between processes is provided by alien calls similar to remote calls.

This volume contains the papers, updated in some cases, presented at the first AISMC (Artificial Intelligence and Symbolic Mathematical Computations)conference, held in Karlsruhe, August 3-6, 1992. This was the first conference to be devoted to such a topic after a long period when SMC made no appearance in AI conferences, though it used to be welcome in the early days of AI. Some conferences were held recently on mathematics and AI, but none was directly comparable in scope to this conference. Because of the novelty of the domain, authors were given longer allocations of time than usual in which to present their work. As a result, extended and fruitful discussions followed each paper. The introductory chapter in this book, which was not presented during the conference, reflects in many ways the flavor of these discussions and aims to set out the framework for future activities in this domain of research. In addition to the introduction, the volume contains 20 papers.

This volume contains the papers which were presented to the workshop "Computer-Science Logic" held in Karlsruhe on October 12-16, 1987. Traditionally Logic, or more specifically, Mathematical Logic splits into several subareas: Set Theory, Proof Theory, Recursion Theory, and Model Theory. In addition there is what sometimes is called Philosophical Logic which deals with topics like nonclassical logics and which for historical reasons has been developed mainly at philosphical departments rather than at mathematics institutions. Today Computer Science challenges Logic in a new way. The theoretical analysis of problems in Computer Science for intrinsic reasons has pointed back to Logic. A broad class of questions became visible which is of a basically logical nature. These questions are often related to some of the traditional disciplines of Logic but normally without being covered adequately by any of them. The novel and unifying aspect of this new branch of Logic is the algorithmic point of view which is based on experiences people had with computers. The aim of the "Computer-Science Logic" workshop and of this volume is to represent the richness of research activities in this field in the German-speaking countries and to point to their underlying general logical principles.

Concrete And Abstract Voronoi Diagrams

Concrete And Abstract Voronoi Diagrams written by Rolf Klein and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989-12-20 with Computers categories.
The Voronoi diagram of a set of sites is a partition of the plane into regions, one to each site, such that the region of each site contains all points of the plane that are closer to this site than to the other ones. Such partitions are of great importance to computer science and many other fields. The challenge is to compute Voronoi diagrams quickly. The problem is that their structure depends on the notion of distance and the sort of site. In this book the author proposes a unifying approach by introducing abstract Voronoi diagrams. These are based on the concept of bisecting curves, which are required to have some simple properties that are actually possessed by most bisectors of concrete Voronoi diagrams. Abstract Voronoi diagrams can be computed efficiently and there exists a worst-case efficient algorithm of divide-and-conquer type that applies to all abstract Voronoi diagrams satisfying a certain constraint. The author shows that this constraint is fulfilled by the concrete diagrams based on large classes of metrics in the plane.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 5th International and Interdisciplinary Conference on Modeling and Using Context, CONTEXT 2005, held in Paris, France in July 2005. The 42 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 120 submissions. The papers presented deal with the interdisciplinary topic of modeling and using context from various points of view, ranging through cognitive science, formal logic, artifical intelligence, computational intelligence, philosophical and psychological aspects, and information processing. Highly general philosophical and theoretical issues are complemented by specific applications in various fields.
