Numerical Analysis And Optimization written by Mehiddin Al-Baali and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-01 with Mathematics categories.

This book gathers selected, peer-reviewed contributions presented at the Fifth International Conference on Numerical Analysis and Optimization (NAO-V), which was held at Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, on January 6-9, 2020. Each chapter reports on developments in key fields, such as numerical analysis, numerical optimization, numerical linear algebra, numerical differential equations, optimal control, approximation theory, applied mathematics, derivative-free optimization methods, programming models, and challenging applications that frequently arise in statistics, econometrics, finance, physics, medicine, biology, engineering and industry. Many real-world, complex problems can be formulated as optimization tasks, and can be characterized further as large scale, unconstrained, constrained, non-convex, nondifferentiable or discontinuous, and therefore require adequate computational methods, algorithms and software tools. These same tools are often employed by researchers working in current IT hot topics, such as big data, optimization and other complex numerical algorithms in the cloud, devising special techniques for supercomputing systems. This interdisciplinary view permeates the work included in this volume. The NAO conference series is held every three years at Sultan Qaboos University, with the aim of bringing together a group of international experts and presenting novel and advanced applications to facilitate interdisciplinary studies among pure scientific and applied knowledge. It is a venue where prominent scientists gather to share innovative ideas and know-how relating to new scientific methodologies, to promote scientific exchange, to discuss possible future cooperations, and to promote the mobility of local and young researchers.

Uk Success Stories In Industrial Mathematics written by Philip J. Aston and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-02-04 with Mathematics categories.

This publication showcases the work of UK mathematicians and statisticians by describing industrial problems that have been successfully solved, together with a summary of the financial and/or societal impact that arose from the work. The articles are grouped by sector, and include contributions to climate modelling, engineering and health. The articles are based on Impact Case Studies that were submitted to the Research Excellence Framework (REF2014), a UK government sponsored exercise that assessed the research quality within UK universities. There are many publications in the realm of ‘popular mathematics’ as well as a vast research literature that underpins this. This work is aimed at a middle ground between these two. Articles contain some mathematical detail, but the emphasis is on telling the story of a successful collaboration between academia and industry and on the results obtained. UK Success Stories in Industrial Mathematics is therefore accessible to a wide readership with interest in the applications of mathematics and statistics to problems of industrial importance and to those interested in how mathematics and statistics research affects our everyday lives and leads to economic and societal benefits.

The Fundamentals Of People Analytics written by Craig Starbuck and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-07-08 with Mathematics categories.

This open access book prepares current and aspiring analytics professionals to effectively address this need by curating key concepts spanning the entire analytics lifecycle, along with step-by-step instructions for their applications to real-world problems, using ubiquitous and freely available open-source software. This book does not assume prior knowledge of statistics, how to query databases, or how to write performant code; early chapters include an introduction to R and SQL as well as an overview of statistical foundations. Human capital is an organization’s most important asset. Without the knowledge and skills of people, an organization can accomplish nothing. The acquisition, development, and retention of critical talent has become increasingly more complex and challenging, and organizations are making significant investments to gain a deeper, data-informed understanding of organizational phenomena impacting the bottom line. By the end of this book, readers will be able to: • Design and conduct empirical research • Query and wrangle data using SQL • Profile, clean, and analyze data using R • Apply appropriate statistical and ML models to a range of people analytics use cases • Package and present analyses to communicate impactful insights to stakeholders

Mathematical Statistics written by Keith Knight and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-11-24 with Mathematics categories.

Traditional texts in mathematical statistics can seem - to some readers-heavily weighted with optimality theory of the various flavors developed in the 1940s and50s, and not particularly relevant to statistical practice. Mathematical Statistics stands apart from these treatments. While mathematically rigorous, its focus is on providing a set of useful tools that allow students to understand the theoretical underpinnings of statistical methodology. The author concentrates on inferential procedures within the framework of parametric models, but - acknowledging that models are often incorrectly specified - he also views estimation from a non-parametric perspective. Overall, Mathematical Statistics places greater emphasis on frequentist methodology than on Bayesian, but claims no particular superiority for that approach. It does emphasize, however, the utility of statistical and mathematical software packages, and includes several sections addressing computational issues. The result reaches beyond "nice" mathematics to provide a balanced, practical text that brings life and relevance to a subject so often perceived as irrelevant and dry.
