The Faculty of Education and Teaching Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Bukittinggi, West Sumatera Indonesia, organized the 2nd International Conference on Education (BICED 2020) on 14-15 September 2020 in Bukittinggi, West Sumatera, Indonesia. The number of participants who joined the zoom room was recorded at 736 participants. 224 participants attended the conference via the zoom application and 539 participants via YouTube Channel. Participants came from 5 countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand and Australia. BICED 2020 is implemented with the support of a stable internet network system and a zoom application. In the implementation there were several technical obstacles encountered by the participants, namely the difficulty of joining the zoom application due to the unstable internet signal. The holding of a virtual conference felt less meaningful, due to the lack of interaction between speakers and participants. The BICED 2020 committee 29 papers were presented and discussed. The papers were authored by researchers from Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand, Malaysia, United Kingdom, and Indonesia. All papers have been scrutinized by a panel of reviewers who provide critical comments and corrections, and thereafter contributed to the improvement of the quality of the papers.

This second edition of the International Handbook of Mathematics Teacher Education builds on and extends the topics/ideas in the first edition while maintaining the themes for each of the volumes. Collectively, the authors looked back beyond and within the last 10 years to establish the state-of-the-art and continuing and new trends in mathematics teacher and mathematics teacher educator education, and looked forward regarding possible avenues for teachers, teacher educators, researchers, and policy makers to consider to enhance and/or further investigate mathematics teacher and teacher educator learning and practice, in particular. The volume editors provide introductions to each volume that highlight the subthemes used to group related chapters, which offer meaningful lenses to see important connections within and across chapters. Readers can also use these subthemes to make connections across the four volumes, which, although presented separately, include topics that have relevance across them since they are all situated in the common focus regarding mathematics teachers. Volume 3, Participants in Mathematics Teacher Education, focuses not only on prospective and practicing teachers as learners but also on school colleagues, teacher educators, researchers, and others who work to provide effective learning opportunities for teachers. The emphasis is on describing and analysing participants’ engagement in mathematics teacher education collaborations and contexts from various perspectives. Thus, as the third volume in the series, it further broadens our understanding of the development of mathematics teachers.

Reform-based mathematics has become a popular topic in the education field as this teaching emphasizes classroom discourse and instructional goals related to student engagement and an understanding of mathematical reasoning, concepts, and procedures using instructional practices that build on students’ informal knowledge of mathematics. It also connects mathematics with other disciplines and the real world and provides opportunities for students to contribute and invent their own methods during problem-solving. Further study on the best practices, benefits, and challenges of implementing this teaching into education is required. Global Perspectives and Practices for Reform-Based Mathematics Teaching explores international perspectives on diverse reform-based practices in teaching and learning mathematics, describes challenges and issues for teachers and teacher educators, promotes reflection and academic discussion at various levels and in various educational systems, and raises questions for the field of mathematics education. Covering a range of topics such as teacher preparation programs and integrated learning spaces, this reference work is ideal for academicians, practitioners, researchers, instructors, educators, and students.
