This book presents the mathematics of wavelet theory and its applications in a broader sense, comprising entropy encoding, lifting scheme, matrix factorization, and fractals. It also encompasses image compression examples using wavelet transform and includes the principal component analysis which is a hot topic on data dimension reduction in machine learning.Readers will find equal coverage on the following three themes:The book entails a varied choice of diverse interdisciplinary themes. While the topics can be found in various parts of the pure and applied literature, this book fulfills the need for an accessible presentation which cuts across the fields. As the target audience is wide-ranging, a detailed and systematic discussion of issues involving infinite dimensions and Hilbert space is presented in later chapters on wavelets, transform theory and, entropy encoding and probability. For the problems addressed there, the case of infinite dimension will be more natural, and well-motivated.

Brownian Motion And Potential Theory Modern And Classical written by Palle Jorgensen and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-10-29 with Mathematics categories.
In this book, potential theory is presented in an inclusive and accessible manner, with the emphasis reaching from classical to modern, from analytic to probabilistic, and from Newtonian to abstract or axiomatic potential theory (including Dirichlet spaces). The reader is guided through stochastic analysis featuring Brownian motion in its early chapters to potential theory in its latter sections. This path covers the following themes: martingales, diffusion processes, semigroups and potential operators, analysis of super harmonic functions, Dirichlet problems, balayage, boundaries, and Green functions. The wide range of applications encompasses random walk models, especially reversible Markov processes, and statistical inference in machine learning models. However, the present volume considers the analysis from the point of view of function space theory, using Dirchlet energy as an inner product. This present volume is an expanded and revised version of an original set of lectures in the Aarhus University Mathematics Institute Lecture Note Series.

Images are all around us! The proliferation of low-cost, high-quality imaging devices has led to an explosion in acquired images. When these images are acquired from a microscope, telescope, satellite, or medical imaging device, there is a statistical image processing task: the inference of something—an artery, a road, a DNA marker, an oil spill—from imagery, possibly noisy, blurry, or incomplete. A great many textbooks have been written on image processing. However this book does not so much focus on images, per se, but rather on spatial data sets, with one or more measurements taken over a two or higher dimensional space, and to which standard image-processing algorithms may not apply. There are many important data analysis methods developed in this text for such statistical image problems. Examples abound throughout remote sensing (satellite data mapping, data assimilation, climate-change studies, land use), medical imaging (organ segmentation, anomaly detection), computer vision (image classification, segmentation), and other 2D/3D problems (biological imaging, porous media). The goal, then, of this text is to address methods for solving multidimensional statistical problems. The text strikes a balance between mathematics and theory on the one hand, versus applications and algorithms on the other, by deliberately developing the basic theory (Part I), the mathematical modeling (Part II), and the algorithmic and numerical methods (Part III) of solving a given problem. The particular emphases of the book include inverse problems, multidimensional modeling, random fields, and hierarchical methods.

Computational Botany written by Paolo Remagnino and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-12-09 with Technology & Engineering categories.
This book discusses innovative methods for mining information from images of plants, especially leaves, and highlights the diagnostic features that can be implemented in fully automatic systems for identifying plant species. Adopting a multidisciplinary approach, it explores the problem of plant species identification, covering both the concepts of taxonomy and morphology. It then provides an overview of morphometrics, including the historical background and the main steps in the morphometric analysis of leaves together with a number of applications. The core of the book focuses on novel diagnostic methods for plant species identification developed from a computer scientist’s perspective. It then concludes with a chapter on the characterization of botanists' visions, which highlights important cognitive aspects that can be implemented in a computer system to more accurately replicate the human expert’s fixation process. The book not only represents an authoritative guide to advanced computational tools for plant identification, but provides experts in botany, computer science and pattern recognition with new ideas and challenges. As such it is expected to foster both closer collaborations and further technological developments in the emerging field of automatic plant identification.
