Mathematische Strenge und Beweise wie in klassischen "Mathematik für Physiker"-Bänden (z.B. Hans Kerner: ID-G 13/06) fehlen, weil sich Räsch an ein breiteres naturwissenschaftlich interessiertes Publikum wendet, dessen physikalisches Grundwissen eine Tiefe erreichen muss, die ohne die mathematische Formalisierung nicht auskommt. Ein- und mehrdimensionale Analysis werden ebenso ausführlich präsentiert wie die lineare Algebra, in Grundzügen auch die Funktionentheorie, Fouriertransformationen und gewöhnliche Differenzialgleichungen. Übungsaufgaben mit Lösungen fehlen. An deren Stelle treten allerdings zahlreiche Beispiele, die durch die Berücksichtigung alternativer Vorgehensweisen und Diskussion gedanklicher Sackgassen dem Leser eine grosse Hilfe sein dürften.
