Mauri Ora written by Mason Durie and has been published by Oxford University Press, USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-01-01 with Maori (New Zealand people) categories.

Mauri Ora outlines the relevance of culture, identity, and socio-economic factors to health. Mason Durie draws on many years of experience to bring fresh perspectives on Maori health, especially mental health. Not only is there a comprehensive clinical review of suicide, depression, and alcohol and drug misuse, but there is also a thorough exploration of the origins of poor health and strategies for improving health. As a sequel to Whaiora, Mauri Ora contains new insights into a Maori psychology and provides useful guidelines for practitioners, especially those who are involved in counselling Maori clients or establishing mental health services for Maori. In addition, population approaches to health, such as community and hapu development, are discussed within a framework that connects health to the broader aims of Maori development. Few books are able to accurately interpret the health perspectives of indigenous peoples, the viewpoints of clinicians, or the resolve of community leaders. Mauri Ora successfully brings together these many strands, presenting health as 'the dynamic interaction of people with each other as well as with wider cultural, social, economic, political and physical environments'.

Are you intrigued by ancient wisdom traditions? Do you ever wonder if they have any relevance in today’s world? How do Indigenous ways of being and doing balance wealth creation and well-being? How might Indigenous peoples define success? What are Indigenous spiritualities? How is Spiritualities manifested in Indigenous organizations today? These questions have intrigued us for many years. As a consequence, we invited scholars from around the world to contribute to a ground-breaking book, Indigenous spiritualities at work: transforming the spirit of business enterprise, to explore these questions from different worldviews. A key focus of this book is how Indigenous spiritual approaches revitalize identities and relationships within the workplace. However, the notion of workplace is not narrow, as it includes communities of engagement and practice in ecologies of creativity and enterprise in the broadest sense. This enables Indigenous spiritualties at work to be explored from diverse perspectives, disciplines, cultures and sectors. In particular, the authentic voices of authors in this book enriches our understandings, offers points of enlightenment and amplifies spiritual traditions of Indigenous peoples in a way that honours traditions of the past, present and future. The contributions build bridges between scholarly work and practice. They include empirical studies of Spiritualities, mindfulness, presence and authenticity. A diverse range of research methodologies, impact studies and examples of development programs are offered alongside artistic works, photographic essays, stories, and poetry.

Recovering Our Ancestral Foodways written by Mariaelena Huambachano and has been published by Univ of California Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-08-13 with Cooking categories.

"Recovering Our Ancestral Foodways is the first relational ethnography of Quechua and Māori peoples' philosophies of well-being, traditional ecological knowledge, and contributions to sustainable food systems. Based on over ten years of fieldwork in Peru and Aotearoa New Zealand, this book explores how Quechua and Māori peoples describe, define, and enact well-being through the lens of foodways. By analyzing how two Indigenous communities operationalize knowledge to promote sustainable food systems, physical and spiritual well-being, and community health, Mariaelena Huambachano unearths a powerful philosophy of food sovereignty called the Chakana/Maahutonga. Huambachano argues that this Indigenous food sovereignty framework offers a foundation for understanding the practices and policies needed to transform the global food system to nourish the world and preserve the Earth. One of the key features of this book, written for Indigenous communities, students, and scholars, is the development of the author's original research methodology, called the Khipu Model, which will serve as a vital resource for future research on Indigenous ways of knowing"--

Architecture And Anthropology written by Adam Jasper and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-05-21 with Architecture categories.

Both architecture and anthropology emerged as autonomous theoretical disciplines in the 18th-century enlightenment. Throughout the 19th century, the fields shared a common icon—the primitive hut—and a common concern with both routine needs and ceremonial behaviours. Both could lay strong claims to a special knowledge of the everyday. And yet, in the 20th century, notwithstanding genre classics such as Bernard Rudofsky’s Architecture without Architects or Paul Oliver’s Shelter, and various attempts to make architecture anthropocentric (such as Corbusier’s Modulor), disciplinary exchanges between architecture and anthropology were often disappointingly slight. This book attempts to locate the various points of departure that might be taken in a contemporary discussion between architecture and anthropology. The results are radical: post-colonial theory is here counterpoised to 19th-century theories of primitivism, archaeology is set against dentistry, fieldwork is juxtaposed against indigenous critique, and climate science is applied to questions of shelter. This publication will be of interest to both architects and anthropologists. The chapters in this book were originally published within two special issues of Architectural Theory Review.

Pearls of wisdom contained in proverbs - whakatauk-I - have been gifted from generation to generation as an intrinsic part of the M-aori world. As powerful metaphors, they combine analogy and cultural history in the most economical of words. Short and insightful, they surprise, engendering reflection, learning and personal growth. Mauri Ora links whakatauk-I to key personal virtues idealised across cultures and generations. The virtues - wisdom, courage, compassion, integrity, self-mastery and belief - stem from the science of positive psychology; the study of how to live a better life. Illustrated throughout with wonderful photographs from an old world, this book draws on traditional wisdom to provide a recipe for personal effectiveness and leadership, and a rewarding connection of M-aori knowledge to contemporary thinking about personal happiness and fulfilment.
