INFORMAL MAXIMS & MAXIMUM INFORMALITY is another of those 'mirror-image' composite projects by John O'Loughlin which takes his wholly aphoristic approach to philosophy a stage or two further along the path of Truth than did its predecessor in the genre,'Maximum Truth & Truthful Maxims' (1993), adding to Social Transcendentalism the concept of Social Theocracy, and thus broadening out the messianic ideology of transcendentalism to include what was destined, in subsequent books, to become the ideological counterpart of Social Democracy and, in that sense, the political as opposed to religious face of the ideology in question.

The text of this work of aphoristic philosophy is not only stylistically less formal but thematically more complex than its predecessor, 'Informal Maxims' (1993), as we proceed through some 1133 maxims, including an appendix/coda, of disparate length in what is, by any standards, a demandingly mind-expanding philosophical adventure which, despite its aphoristic informality, is not without specific directionality.

Paraguay’s economy features a high degree of informality. Based on different estimation approaches, informal activity represents more than half of total employment in Paraguay, a higher rate than those observed in its Latin American and the Caribbean peers. Theoretical and empirical considerations support the notion that regulations, enforcement policies, and government effectiveness are the ultimate determinants of informality. In all of these areas Paraguay performs weakly compared to regional peers. Using household and enterprise surveys, we find that Paraguay’s informal sector absorbs the most vulnerable workers but affects negatively medium and large firms in the formal sector. DSGE model simulations suggest that the optimal combination of policies to reduce informality is not straightforward, and needs to reflect the specific circumstances and objectives of the country.

THE MAXIMUM TRUTH QUARTET combines four books of aphoristic philosophy under one heading, beginning with 'Maximum Truth' and progressing, via 'Truthful Maxims' and 'Informal Maxims', to 'Maximum Informality'. Thus this quartet of books begins with a 'maximum' and ends with one, all of which were written in 1993, and thus demonstrate a stylistic and thematic continuity.

A large percentage of workers and firms operate in the informal economy, outside the line of sight of governments in emerging market and developing economies. This may hold back the recovery in these economies from the deep recessions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic--unless governments adopt a broad set of policies to address the challenges of widespread informality. This study is the first comprehensive analysis of the extent of informality and its implications for a durable economic recovery and for long-term development. It finds that pervasive informality is associated with significantly weaker economic outcomes--including lower government resources to combat recessions, lower per capita incomes, greater poverty, less financial development, and weaker investment and productivity.

Natural Symbols written by Professor Mary Douglas and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-06-01 with Social Science categories.

One of the most important works of modern anthropology. Written against the backdrop of the student uprisings of the late 1960s, the book took seriously the revolutionary fervour of the times, but instead of seeking to destroy the rituals and symbols that can govern and oppress, Mary Douglas saw instead that if transformation were needed, it could only be made possible through better understanding. Expressed with clarity and dynamism, the passionate analysis which follows remains one of the most insightful and rewarding studies of human behaviour ever written.

This Selected Issues paper analyzes the spillover effects of key external shocks on Paraguay. It presents an overview of Paraguay’s major economic and financial linkages with the rest world, and quantifies the spillover effects of key external factors on the Paraguayan economy, using a vector autoregression approach. The empirical results suggest that global shocks have a significant impact on Paraguay’s growth rate. The paper also highlights that output and exchange rate shocks stemming from Brazil and Argentina are also important, even after controlling for global factors.
