Who Do You Ask When You Don’t Have the Answers? What’s a girl to do when caught between a rock and a hard place? The “hard place” is losing the use of her beloved car, and the “rock” is her immovable dad. In order to regain driving privileges, Kim Peterson’s dad talks her into writing an advice column for teens in his newspaper. Kim reluctantly agrees and writes under a pen name. But as she reads letters from peers and friends, she becomes keenly aware of two things: (1) Some kids have it way worse than her, and (2) she does not have all the answers! Who can she turn to? Thursday, September 1 I’ve been saving for my own car, but my parents decided that I can only get a car if I keep a clean driving record. That means absolutely NO tickets—period—nada. And the policeman said he’d clocked me going 72 in a 55 mile zone. Oops. When Kim Peterson gets a speeding ticket, her dad offers her a way to retain her driving privileges. If she’ll write the anonymous teen advice column for his newspaper, she can still get a car. So Kim becomes “Jamie” of “Just Ask Jamie.” No big deal, she thinks. She answers letters about stuff that’s everyday and stuff that’s not: parents, piercings, dating, drugs, depression, and people who are just users. Nothing Kim can’t handle. But when a classmate is killed, the letters turn to questions about life, death, and what it all means. And Kim starts to wonder if she really does have all the answers—and if not, where to find them. The Christian faith of her adoptive family? The Buddhism of her Korean heritage? Who can she turn to—to just ask? Story Behind the Book “My teenage years remain vivid in my mind. It was a turbulent time full of sharp contrasts—love and hate, pain and pleasure, trust and doubt. Then, just as I reached my peak of questioning, rebelling, and seeking, I found God. And I found Him in a really big way! My life turned completely around and has, thankfully, never turned back. Hopefully this story will touch and change hearts—speaking to teen girls right where they live, reminding readers that God is alive and well and ready to be intimately involved in their lives right now! ”

_______________ 'A pacy but absorbing saga of domestic struggle and gangland manoeuvring set against the violent backdrop of postwar Jamaican politics' - Independent on Sunday 'A blindingly good read ... both for its mesmeric story-telling and the quality of its prose' - Observer 'Young's heartfelt, sparky and affecting debut novel is a chronicle of multicultural Jamaica ... The complexity of Jamaican society in Pao is fascinating and bewildering' - Guardian _______________ SHORTLISTED FOR THE COSTA FIRST NOVEL AWARD _______________ A richly imagined, wholly engrossing and utterly captivating novel that tells the remarkable history of twentieth century Jamaica I was just a boy when I come to Jamaica. Kingston, 1938. Fourteen-year-old Yang Pao steps off the ship from China with his mother and brother, after his father has died fighting for the revolution. They are to live with Zhang, the 'godfather' of Chinatown, who mesmerises Pao with stories of glorious Chinese socialism on one hand, and the reality of his protection business on the other. When Pao takes over the family's affairs he becomes a powerful man. He sets his sights on marrying well, but when Gloria Campbell, a black prostitute, comes to him for help he is drawn to her beauty and strength. They begin a relationship that continues even after Pao marries Fay Wong, the 'acceptable' but headstrong daughter of a wealthy Chinese merchant. As the political violence escalates in the 1960s the lines between Pao's socialist ideals and private ambitions become blurred. Jamaica is transforming, the tides of change are rising, and the one-time boss of Chinatown finds himself cast adrift. Richly imagined and utterly captivating, Pao is a dazzling tale of race, class and colour, love and ambition, and a country at a historical crossroads. _______________ 'With grace, authenticity and humour, Young lets Jamaica's political history shine through the life story of her charming yet fallible hero. Brilliant' - Daily Mail

Life without walls to me is life being preplanned, and we have a path to walk, so when we walk off that plan, the path becomes discomposed. Uncertainty, dismay, and confusion come our way. Regardless of your circumstances or situation, prayer, determination, and having faith in your own capabilities can change the outcome. I never stopped believing in my God, and I never gave up no matter what people said about me or to me. I never had the support of my family. It would have meant the world to me to know that someone cared about what was happening to me. Instead, I had to rely on fake friends and associates for self-confirmation, not knowing that I didn't need anyone to confirm what I already felt in my heart. After being physically and mentally abused by my husband, I had to dig deep down inside my soul to build up the courage to become independent of the power that I had given him for him to control my life. Love does not scare you for life. Love does not take your self-esteem and belittle you as a person. I had to look in the mirror, at myself and my kids, and say "You matter, you've got so much to live for," and muster up the courage to leave. Neither my childhood, past relationships, disappointments, failed marriages, abuse, nor life without walls can stop me from accomplishing my dreams.

Blessed written by Joan O'Brien and has been published by Page Publishing Inc this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-11-21 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

From boarding out with families to boarding schools, Joan Sprague knew no father, hardly knew a mother, but felt loved wherever she lived. She had dreams like any young girl and, like any teenager, longed for the love of a handsome young man. Whether near the ocean or in the mountains, near the jungle or in the cities, her experience of people was enlightening, inspirational, and at times, disappointing. As Joan searched for God's plan for her life, she tolerated physical pain, bore emotional suffering, accepted disappointment, assumed obligations, discovered love. Family and friends, both near and far, remained her stable go-to. Each time she came to a fork in the road of her life, her staple remained love--love of God-Jesus, love of family, love of friends. She felt so blessed that she had so very much, even amid pain, indecision, and sorrow. Joan was a pretty teenager with beautiful auburn hair. As she grew into womanhood, she was very attractive but didn't know it (she had to be told.) She loved movies, the beach, baseball. She especially loved music, dancing, singing, and performing. As a devout Catholic, she was edified by the nuns and priests who taught her. After one year in college, she took, as she believed was God's plan for her, the road less traveled nowadays and entered the sisterhood. From Boston to Brazil, she loved her teaching profession and her students of different ages and various cultures... Then she met Padre Xavier, man of God, a man of the cloth. What lay ahead for this young woman who had vowed her life to God? She still felt God's spirit awakening her, pushing her, breathing his life into her soul, yet what was his message now? Could she go on this way, having these feelings each time Xavier was in the room? Prayer, yes, of course. The will of God became her mantra, but could she discern what it was? Eventually, she did.

The “nonsense” Aria spouts becomes a matter of life and death. Aria may be the only one who can find out what happened to Jade. But the closer she gets to the truth, the closer she comes to being the next target of someone else who hides in plain sight. Someone with a very dark plan.
