"Caught between the Theatricality of the Baroque and the acute sensibility of Romanticism, art in Rome in the eighteenth century has long been a neglected area of study." "The grand scale and spectacular diversity of the period are comprehensively captured for the first time in this definitive history of the period, produced to accompany a major U.S. exhibition organized by the Philadelphia Museum of Art and The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and documenting the work of over 150 artists. With over 450 illustrations, and texts by an outstanding array of experts from around the world, Art in Rome in the Eighteenth Century provides a massively authoritative survey of a fascinating era."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Methods In Prosody written by Ingo Feldhausen and has been published by Language Science Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-10-25 with categories.

This book presents a collection of pioneering papers reflecting current methods in prosody research with a focus on Romance languages. The rapid expansion of the field of prosody research in the last decades has given rise to a proliferation of methods that has left little room for the critical assessment of these methods. The aim of this volume is to bridge this gap by embracing original contributions, in which experts in the field assess, reflect, and discuss different methods of data gathering and analysis. The book might thus be of interest to scholars and established researchers as well as to students and young academics who wish to explore the topic of prosody, an expanding and promising area of study.

Information technology has now pervaded the legal sector, and the very modern concepts of e-law and e-justice show that automation processes are ubiquitous. European policies on transparency and information society, in particular, require the use of technology and its steady improvement. Some of the revised papers presented in this book originate from a workshop held at the European University Institute of Florence, Italy, in December 2006. The workshop was devoted to the discussion of the different ways of understanding and explaining contemporary law, for the purpose of building computable models of it -- especially models enabling the development of computer applications for the legal domain. During the course of the following year, several new contributions, provided by a number of ongoing (or recently finished) European projects on computation and law, were received, discussed and reviewed to complete the survey. This book presents 20 thoroughly refereed revised papers on the hot topics under research in different EU projects: legislative XML, legal ontologies, semantic web, search and meta-search engines, web services, system architecture, dialectic systems, dialogue games, multi-agent systems (MAS), legal argumentation, legal reasoning, e-justice, and online dispute resolution. The papers are organized in topical sections on knowledge representation, ontologies and XML legislative drafting; knowledge representation, legal ontologies and information retrieval; argumentation and legal reasoning; normative and multi-agent systems; and online dispute resolution.

Childhood. Think about the meaning of this word for us today as we near the end of the 20th century: a time to grow, a time to play, a time to learn, an idyllic time. Did the notion of childhood elicit the same thoughts for people in 18th- and 19th-century America? Indeed, was there even such a concept as childhood then, or is it instead a 20th-century invention that we have come to take for granted? These are difficult questions, in part because there never has been one universal understanding of childhood. How earlier generations viewed life s first stage depended on such factors as where they lived, their occupations, and their legal status as free, indentured, or enslaved Americans. One s experience and memories of childhood would have differed widely. A child working on the family farm in New England, the daughter of wealthy Philadelphians attending needlework school, or an enslaved African girl serving as a house maid in Virginia all surely experienced childhood very differently. KIDS! explores the many ways in which adults shaped the world of children in America between 1700 and 1900. It looks closely at the furniture, the books, the clothing, the toys, and the games used by and created for children, and it tells stories about growing up in early America. Above all, it invites readers to learn through history. Using objects and the stories that surround them, KIDS! puts us in touch with the past and, in so doing, moves us closer to understanding the present."
